Description:

FLEX is seeking passionate writers with a desire to share their expertise in an education setting. College Essay Instructors work with high school juniors and seniors on their college application essays, including UC, Common App, and Supplements for private universities. They are master-writers, and have the tenacity and drive to develop and nurture students’ writing abilities. Essay instructors meet with students in a one-on-one setting from June through December, or until the students’ essays are complete.

  • Flexible Commitment - Work between 5 and 20 hours per week, allowing you to balance your professional and personal life.
  • Meaningful Impact - Directly support students in achieving their academic dreams by refining their college essays.
  • Expert Mentorship - Collaborate with a team of seasoned professionals in a supportive environment.

What will you do as a College Essay Mentor/Coach?

  • Provide personalized guidance to high school students through the college essay writing season.
  • Help students brainstorm, outline, and refine their personal statements and supplemental essays.
  • Foster critical thinking and narrative development to help students find their unique voices.
  • Maintain clear communication with students and parents regarding progress and deadlines.

Requirements:

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Creative Writing, or Humanities from a U.S. Top 50 college or university
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a passion for storytelling, ideally having a proven writers and experienced instructors who can drive a student to succeed and who are committed to helping students tell their story
  • Experience in mentoring or teaching is highly desirable
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple student projects effectively
  • A commitment to the values of FLEX College Prep and our mission to support students
  • Excellent communication skills and an empathetic approach to coaching and the ability to establish rapport with students and Admissions Consultants
  • Experience teaching or tutoring high school students
  • Availability to work at least some evenings and Saturdays consistently
  • Familiar with the U.S. college application process/essays
