Job description

At a glance

Company: Able Medical Devices
Location: Marquette, MI 49855
Job Type: Full-Time
Machines: CNC Equipment, Manual Lathe, Mill & Grinding
Software: CAM and Solid Modeling Software

Why this job is worth considering

Able Medical Devices builds precision-machined surgical implants and instruments, including products like the Valkyrie Thoracic Fixation System. As a CNC Programmer, you will own tooling and material decisions, write and manage CNC programs, and machine orthopedic medical device implants and instruments to tight tolerances. It is precision, regulated production work in an ISO 13485-certified, FDA-registered environment, with a full-time schedule and relocation assistance available for candidates moving to the Marquette, MI area.

What you'll be doing

  • Determine tooling and raw material requirements based on the finished part, fixturing, and workholding needs, and purchase tooling to support reliable, sustainable machining processes.
  • Program and troubleshoot CNC equipment, and manufacture standard production and prototype parts using solid modeling and CAM software.
  • Manage CNC programs, including saving versions, transferring them to machines, and controlling updates and revisions to the master copy.
  • Manage tooling and fixturing inventory to support setup reduction and 5S efforts.
  • Machine parts, fixtures, and tooling on manual lathe, mill, and grinding equipment to support prototype and standard production.
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering to optimize new product designs for manufacturability.
  • Read engineering drawings, especially for orthopedic medical device implants and instruments, and interpret GD&T specifications to optimize fixturing and programming.
  • Use precision measuring and gauging tools to inspect parts before, during, and after machining, and document process sheets, prints, tool lists, and inspection procedures.

Level 3 scope (when applicable)

At the Level 3 tier, this role also includes assisting with quoting contract manufacturing work (estimating setup and cycle times, tooling, fixturing, and material needs), sourcing new cutting tools and workholding to reduce cycle time, supporting lean manufacturing implementation, and helping ensure machines and processes run predictably through SPC.

Machines, controls and software

CNC programming and machining equipment, plus manual lathe, mill, and grinding machines. CAM and solid modeling software for programming production and prototype parts. Precision measuring and gauging tools for in-process and final inspection.

What we're looking for

Required:

  • Hands-on CNC programming experience, including tooling and material selection for production and prototype parts.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, including orthopedic medical device implants and instruments, and interpret GD&T specifications.
  • Manual lathe, mill, or grinding experience for prototype and fixture work.
  • Ability to use precision measuring and gauging tools for in-process inspection.

Pay, benefits and schedule

Full-Time schedule. Relocation assistance is available for candidates relocating to the Marquette, MI area.
