Job description

Position Summary Assistant Director - Study Abroad International Education and Services Full-Time International Education and Services (IES) at Southeast Missouri State University contributes to comprehensive internationalization efforts across the campus through oversight of international student recruitment and admissions, support services for more than 700 international students, and study abroad. Reporting to the Executive Director of IES, the Assistant Director - Study Abroad will play a critical role for IES and the campus by managing all aspects of the study abroad area, including student advising, marketing, enhancing intercultural learning, and administrative leadership. We seek a dynamic, ethical, motivated professional with excellent customer-service skills, a passion for learning, and a desire to help students achieve their education abroad goals.

Primary Responsibilities Lead and manage all aspects of SEMO's study abroad programs. Represent International Education & Services in cross-campus initiatives. Also, develop and manage a group of study abroad Peer Mentors.

Develop, promote, and manage all study abroad outreach, marketing, and event initiatives. Responsibilities include creating and updating SEMO's study abroad web content, coordinating logistics for study abroad events, producing promotional materials, and overseeing social-media content planning and scheduling to increase student engagement Administer and optimize the Via TRM study abroad management system. Responsibilities include maintaining program listings and terms, developing online forms and automated communications, processing high-volume application status updates across all phases of the student application cycle, and ensuring compliance with pre-departure requirements through tracking of required forms and documentation Oversee compliance documentation for all outbound and inbound program participants.

Manage monthly outbound insurance enrollments, ensure proper course registration for outbound students, process inbound and outbound exchange nominations, and coordinate the admission and documentation of inbound exchange students, including the issuance of immigration-related forms Lead the University on developing and improving all policies and practices pertaining to study abroad, review, document, and improve internal procedures and workflows including credit transfer and enrollment.to ensure alignment with institutional policies and professional standards Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management process to protect the university and all participating students in the event of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances Develop and implement co-curricular elements to study abroad programs to maximize study abroad experiences and enhance participants' career readiness Assist SEMO faculty members with all aspects pertaining to the development and delivery of faculty-led study abroad programs Monitor university exchange agreements and facilitate admission process of incoming exchange students Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) Required Qualifications Master's Degree Minimum of 3 years work experience in a higher education setting, working in international education or study abroad office is a plus Experience living and/or studying abroad U.S. citizen or permanent resident qualified to serve as DSO and ARO for SEVIS purposes Strong technical proficiency with a demonstrated ability to work across multiple software platforms simultaneously Demonstrated interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience interacting with non-native English speakers and public speaking Experience and comfort with public speaking Demonstrated experience teaching, tutoring, and/or training Familiarity with concepts of the development of intercultural competencies as part of a study abroad program Demonstrated ability to diffuse an emotional or tense situation and offer viable solutions Ability to work occasional nights and weekends Ability to travel both internationally and domestically Required Information & Deadline Application Deadline: To ensure full consideration, application materials listed below must be received by September 14, 2026.
