Job Description
Responsible for leading and developing a team of analysts and data science professionals to support Wellmark's corporate strategic initiatives and ultimately drive decisions. Manage the design and delivery of evidence-based recommendations to solve problems and increase efficiency, productivity, and improve outcomes. Ensure that models, data, and integrated solutions are provided to internal stakeholders, key decision makers and/or leadership across the organization.
Qualifications
Required:
For consideration, you must meet one of the following educational/technical requirements:
  • Master's degree in quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, finance, accounting, computer science, engineering, or economics, and 2 year of applicable work experience - OR
  • Bachelor's degree in related field (preferred STEM or quantitative discipline (e.g. Finance, Accounting)), and 4 years direct and applicable work experience along with specific experience in the following:
  • Demonstrated experience in analytical or strategic role, including:
  • Leadership skills gained through a combination of formal, informal, or project leadership that demonstrates competencies
  • Demonstrated problem solving and consultative analysis experience, including proactively engaging with business stakeholders to solve business problems.
  • Critical thinking skills, including demonstrated experience reviewing and synthesizing business information for the purpose of deriving and delivering relevant insights and recommendations resulting in data enabled decisions
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capability to gather information and synthesize key points, to all levels of the organization
  • Proactive self-starter with effective time management skills and the ability to organize and prioritize projects or tasks. Ability to manage timelines and competing priorities. Strong attention to detail

Preferred:
  • Advanced degree in a related field including such as Statistics, Biochemistry, Epidemiology, Data Science or other STEM discipline
  • Health insurance industry experience
  • Fluency with at least one statistical programming software and language (e.g., R, SAS, Python, Java, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with inferential, statistical, supervised and/or unsupervised modeling, regression analysis, time-series, optimization and simulation
  • Experience with database and data warehousing concepts
  • Proficiency with advanced data processing, preparation and joins
  • Application of advanced analytics (e.g. statistical modeling, voice/text analytics, machine learning)
  • Six Sigma or other lean methodology experience

Job Responsibilities
a. Proactively consult and communicate the art of the possible with key departments and stakeholders on an ongoing basis to solve complex business problems, identify opportunities for optimization, initiate process improvement strategies, and provide expertise for projects, reporting, and problem-solving analysis.
b. Guide/lead/train team on consultative problem solving using the following steps: problem definition, disaggregating problem into branches, prioritizing most critical branches, workplan development, analyzing, synthesizing, and then communicating.
c. Utilize and coach others in the use of problem-solving analysis and data science methods/best practices to enable solutions.
d. Provide leadership and day-to-day management of financial and human resources, primarily focusing on employee coaching, development, performance improvement, coordination and budgeting for staff and department(s) specific functions/services. Support business objectives and produce results that are effective, accurate, and timely.
e. Drive collaboration with business stakeholders to define, design, execute, maintain, monitor, and improve self-service reporting suites and models to support critical business initiatives.
f. Manage multiple projects simultaneously to support, develop, and implement corporate strategic plan initiatives, meeting aggressive timeframes. Partner with stakeholders to prioritize items within the business's portfolio of initiatives.
g. Build or oversee construction of statistical models; assess quality and performance, and ensure correct implementation, documentation, and maintenance.
h. Monitor and assess the advancements in analytics and consulting technology and trends on topics such as machine learning, process improvement, decision-making optimization, and problem solving. Adopt advancements as appropriate.
i. Drive successful adoption solutions through clear communication and purposeful change management tactics.
j. Engage and collaborate with application delivery and infrastructure operations teams to ensure the successful implementation, execution, and data integrity of delivered solutions.
k. Develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements.
l. Other duties as assigned.
