Job description

Kind of Work Would you like to be responsible for maintaining order and decorum through providing security functions within courtrooms and adjacent public areas. You'll ensure the personal protection of judges, jurors, witnesses, attorneys and other persons involved with the court, including the general public. Be a part of something bigger by applying for St.

Louis County's part-time bailiff position in Hibbing, MN. The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $20.50 - $26.73 per hour

Distinguishing Features of Work An employee in this class preserves order and control in courtrooms and common areas of the courthouses to ensure the safety of court officials, participants, and the general public. Duties include monitoring and screening individuals, packages and personal items entering and leaving the courtroom using a variety of detection methods and devices; assisting in providing security during heightened security situations; assisting with emergency medical situations as needed; obtaining defendants identifying information in accordance with applicable laws; directing and escorting non-combative custodial individuals within the courthouse. The work is performed in accordance with established Departmental policies under the supervision and authority of the Sheriff's Office, and in conjunction with other courthouse staff.

Work Environment These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Stand; hearing up to 20 feet; vision; work around others; customer/public contact and work inside. FREQUENT: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; push/pull up to 20 pounds; bend neck; climb stairs; feel/use fingers; grasp/handle; maintain posture; move about; reach; rotate neck; talk/speak; twist at waist; walk; hear within 5 feet; use an earphone; near, midrange and far vision; depth perception; visual accommodation; work with others; and clients with behavioral challenges.

OCCASIONAL: Push/pull up to 70 pounds; balance; crouch/squat; reach above shoulder; sit; static neck position; stoop/bend; taste/smell; right and left wrist turn; color vision; exposure to blood-borne pathogens; work alone; extended days; work outside and drive. RARE: Restrain individuals. Selection Process MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail): High school graduation or equivalent.

Possession of a valid driver's license. Candidates with related training in law enforcement, military law enforcement or private security training and/or experience are preferred.
