Job description

The Picture Framer will work with the highest quality picture framing equipment in a high volume production environment to cut and join frames, cut mats and glass, stretch canvases, including over-sized and assemble framed artwork. The Picture Framer will work in tandem with production team members and sales staff to create frames that meet the highest standards and uphold the reputation of the Colorchrome brand.


Primary duties/responsibilities:

  • Assemble and fit frames for a variety of mediums to include original & printed artwork on paper, canvas, wood, metal & fabric
  • Chop and join moulding using a double mitre-saw and under-pinner
  • Mount artwork using conservation hinging techniques, shadowboxing techniques, sewing and drymounting up to 48”x96”
  • Stretch and frame canvas art up to 20 feet long
  • Cut mats and glass using Valiani mat cutter and Fletcher wall cutter
  • Inspect frames and finished pieces to ensure they meet quality standards
  • Work with Production and Sales team members to ensure structural integrity and strength of each frame design
  • Maintain clean work area
  • Read, interpret and follow instructions in framing work tickets and spec sheets

Desired Skills & Background

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Picture Framer required
  • Commercial Production Framer strongly preferred
  • Experience with Specialty Soft software preferred
  • Must understand construction of stretcher bars, risers, float frames & standard frames for paper, canvas & mirrors
  • Reliable, productive, and able to work continuously in a shop environment
  • Comfortable with and capable of using small and medium power and hand tools such as table saws, drills, screw guns, miter saws, chop saws, routers, hand held saws, utility knives, mallets, etc.
  • Strong problem solving skills and strategic thinking ability required
  • Can read and recognize product variations
  • Can read a tape measure and calculate fractions
  • Able to work in a fast-paces environment and follow through on tasks without reminders
  • Able to work efficiently and manage time effectively
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs and be standing and active all day
  • Must be an individual who values learning and continuous improvement, who wants to make positive contributions to a common effort
  • High attention to detail required
  • High school or GED required
