Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position works collaboratively with multiple departments to create innovative product designs, refine existing systems, and ensure alignment with established company branding and design standards. This position develops high-quality 2D and 3D visual assets, animations, technical illustrations, and graphics for promotional, training, and instructional materials. Responsibilities also include conceptual design for biotech instruments, laboratory and facility renderings, and the creation of scientific visual assets and imagery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Translate user descriptions to generate sketches, 2D and 3D models, prototypes at all product stages, including ergonomic considerations and technical constraints. 

• Create detailed illustrations ranging from conceptual art to photo-realistic 3D imagery.

• Collaborate and interpret input from various sources to sketch mockups, create prototypes, participate in design reviews, and continuous product improvement initiatives.

• Produce renderings, exploded views, and visual concepts for engineering reviews along with graphics, illustrations, and animations for user manuals and training videos, and other marketing materials.

• Assist the Creative Team with promotional content, product visuals, trade show displays, and digital marketing assets while maintaining company brand identity and visual standards.

• Maintain organized design files, drawings, and documentation to ensure accurate version tracking and up-to-date visual asset records.

• Collaborate cross-functionally to support project timelines and ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.

• Responsible for maintaining proficiency and knowledge of color, composition, lighting, and rendering settings to create visually compelling and technically accurate imagery.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or a related field such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD).

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in industrial, instrument or product development design. 

• Portfolio showcasing 2D and 3D renderings, animation, videos, and design samples required.

• In-house corporate design experience in biotech, medical, or consumer electronics industry preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Strong understanding of design principles, including composition, lighting, and color theory, along with proficiency in industry-standard design and 3D modeling software such as 3D Studio Max (or equivalent), SolidWorks, KeyShot, After Effects, or Substance 3D Stager, and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.

• Able to effectively work with and maintain the confidentiality of all content, concepts and designs.

• Strong communications skills to effectively interpret data in a collaborative, team environment and convey issues that impacts timelines.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and set appropriate expectations of design within branding guidelines.

• Possess a creative and technical ability, and a proven track record in visual storytelling to collaborate with others to produce content with minimal supervision.

• Highly experienced in translating engineering concepts into sketches and 2D/3D visualizations, through iterative ideation sessions to evolve concepts for prototype development and subsequent phases.

• Ability to track and incorporate multiple revisions to project specifications from various collaborators while producing highest quality, error-free projects.

• Demonstrated experience in communicating and illustrating complex technical material at all levels of understanding and expertise. 

• Knowledge of branding standards and visual identity consistency and ability to follow company and department processes to maintain detailed records of change requests and final, approved collateral.

• Proficient in MS Office, particularly PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.  May occasionally be required to move/lift up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is performed in a traditional office environment.  

COMPENSATION SUMMARY:

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,100 to $134,400. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
