Job description

Albuquerque, United States | Posted on 09/08/2026

Voss Scientific is a 38-year-old physical sciences and engineering company providing high-fidelity solutions to complex technical challenges across government and commercial customers. We are entering a new period of growth and modernization and are looking for an experienced operations leader to help build the systems, processes, and infrastructure needed for our next phase.

Our team includes scientists, engineers, and technical professionals working on challenging R&D programs where strong operational execution and government contracting expertise are critical.

Why This Role Matters

The Operations Lead will own the operational side of Voss Scientific, with government contracts management serving as the foundation of the role.

You will be responsible for understanding how our contracts workโ€”from rates, invoicing, and compliance to FAR/DFARS requirementsโ€”and ensuring the business operates effectively against those requirements. At the same time, you will oversee broader business operations including bookkeeping, facilities, purchasing, personnel operations, and administrative functions.

This is not a contracts administration or paperwork-focused position. We are looking for someone who understands the mechanics and economics of government contracts and is excited to take broader ownership of how the business operates.

What You'll Do

  • Own government and commercial contracts, including negotiation, administration, modifications, compliance, invoicing, and ongoing execution.
  • Understand and manage contract rate structures, run rates, invoicing, and the financial mechanics of contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR/DFARS, Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) and other applicable government contracting requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate NDAs, Teaming Agreements, subcontracts, and prime contracts and modifications.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for contracting officers, customers, and commercial partners.
  • Support new bids, proposals, pricing, and contract strategy.
  • Oversee day-to-day business operations, including the bookkeeping, facilities, purchasing, front desk, and personnel operations teams.
  • Lead and support the operations team and ensure operational processes align with contractual and compliance requirements.
  • Modernize Voss's business systems and processes (e.g. payroll), identifying opportunities to move longstanding manual processes into scalable systems while maintaining compliance.
  • Build processes that support company growth without adding unnecessary complexity.
Requirements

What You Bring

  • Extensive experience managing government contracts, ideally supporting DoD programs; DOE contracting experience is also highly relevant.
  • Deep working knowledge of FAR/DFARS and government contracting requirements.
  • Experience with DCAA/DCMA requirements, audits, or comparable government contracting environments.
  • Strong understanding of FFP, CPFF, T&M, and other contract structures.
  • Ability to speak fluently about rates, invoicing, compliance, contract economics, and how business operations need to align with contractual requirements.
  • Experience negotiating and administering complex government and/or commercial agreements.
  • Ability and interest in taking ownership beyond the contracts function and helping run the broader business.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to work effectively with scientists, engineers, leadership, customers, and operational staff.
  • Must be located in or willing to work in Albuquerque, NM.
Bonus Points For
  • Previous operations leadership experience.
  • Experience implementing or modernizing business systems and processes.
  • Experience working with scientists, engineers, or technical R&D organizations.
  • Accounting, finance, or compliance exposure.
  • Experience supporting proposals, new bids, and pricing.
  • Experience in a smaller organization where you have had to wear multiple hats.
  • CPCM, CFCM, or similar contracting certification.

The actual base salary offered will be determined by: experience, skills, and work location. This range is for base salary; our total compensation includes equity and benefits. Voss Scientific is committed to creating a diverse environment and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals with disabilities
