Job description

Allient Inc. is in growth mode and currently seeking a Strategic Sourcing and Logistics Manager to join our team in Rochester, New York!

The Strategic Sourcing and Logistics Manager supports the development and execution of sourcing, supplier, and inbound/outbound logistics strategies to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality, cost-effective materials and components. This role partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Customer Service to optimize supplier performance, support new product development, improve supply chain efficiency, and coordinate domestic and international material movement. The position also assists with trade compliance activities and supply chain risk mitigation initiatives. Apply now!

Responsibilities:

Strategic Supply Chain Leadership

  • Develop and execute supply chain strategies aligned with company growth objectives, customer requirements, and operational goals.
  • Support initiatives that improve supply chain resilience, reduce risk, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) activities by providing supplier, inventory, and material availability information.
  • Develop long-term sourcing strategies for critical electronic components, raw materials, and contract services.

Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key suppliers and negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, and service agreements.
  • Monitor supplier performance using KPIs including quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
  • Identify alternate sourcing strategies to mitigate supply disruptions, obsolescence, geopolitical risks, and component shortages.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to qualify new suppliers and components.
  • Inventory & Materials Management
  • Optimize inventory levels while maintaining customer service objectives.
  • Recommend inventory strategies that reduce excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
  • Support MRP planning, safety stock policies, forecasting accuracy, and material replenishment.

Drive continuous improvements in inventory accuracy and warehouse operations.

Logistics & Distribution

  • Coordinate LTL and parcel shipments to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
  • Manage domestic and international logistics operations, including inbound materials and outbound customer shipments.
  • Optimize freight costs while maintaining delivery performance.
  • Ensure compliance with import/export regulations, customs requirements, and trade compliance.
  • Develop relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and third-party logistics providers.

Operations Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Manufacturing, Production Planning, Engineering, and Customer Service to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Resolve supply chain constraints affecting production schedules.
  • Support new product introductions by coordinating material readiness and supplier capability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Engineering, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to support design-for-manufacturability, sourcing decisions, and successful product launches.

Risk Management

  • Identify supply chain risks and recommend mitigation plans for critical suppliers and materials.
  • Monitor market trends affecting electronic component availability and pricing.
  • Support business continuity plans for supply chain disruptions.
  • Coordinate supplier recovery activities during shortages or quality concerns.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.
  • Analyze performance metrics and implement corrective actions to improve service, cost, and efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives utilizing ERP, MRP, analytics, and supply chain planning tools.

Compliance & Quality

  • Support compliance with industry standards including ISO 13485, AS9100, ISO 9001, FDA requirements, ITAR/EAR (as applicable), and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Ensure suppliers meet regulatory and quality expectations.
  • Assist in the generation of trade compliance documentation for both incoming and outgoing shipments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • MBA or Master's degree preferred.

Experience

  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain, procurement, logistics, or purchasing within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in electronics manufacturing is required.
  • Experience serving medical devices, aerospace, semiconductor equipment, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing global suppliers and international logistics

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in inventory management, forecasting, demand planning, and S&OP.
  • Understanding of electronic components, PCB assemblies, and contract manufacturing environments.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; experience with business intelligence tools is preferred.
