Head of Robotics

Build the Future of Autonomous Infrastructure

San Francisco, CA

Location: Downtown San Francisco (In-Office when required)

Type: Full-Time

Industry: Robotics | Autonomous Vehicles | AI | Mobility Infrastructure | EV Technology

About Autzu

Autzu is building the infrastructure powering the next generation of autonomous mobility.

Today we operate EV fleets across North America. Tomorrow, we're building the robotics and autonomous infrastructure that will power large-scale autonomous vehicle operations around the world.

Our vision extends beyond vehicles—we're creating intelligent autonomous hubs that integrate robotics, hardware automation, AI, fleet operations, charging, maintenance, and logistics into one scalable platform.

With expansion across North America and international markets, this is an opportunity to build robotics systems that will operate at massive scale.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Head of Robotics to build and lead Autzu's robotics organization.

This is a true builder role.

You'll define our robotics strategy, build the team, launch pilot programs, develop autonomous hub technologies, and help shape how autonomous fleets operate in the real world.

This isn't simply about robotic arms or warehouse automation.

It's about creating the physical automation layer that enables autonomous mobility.

What You'll Build

You'll lead the development of robotics initiatives across areas such as:

  • Autonomous depot automation
  • Vehicle charging automation
  • Robotic inspection systems
  • Autonomous maintenance workflows
  • Material handling
  • Fleet servicing robotics
  • Hardware automation
  • Sensor integration
  • Robotics software and controls
  • AI-enabled robotic workflows
  • Future autonomous hub technologies

What You'll Do

  • Build Autzu's robotics roadmap alongside executive leadership
  • Hire and lead a multidisciplinary robotics organization
  • Develop robotics pilot programs from concept through deployment
  • Design scalable robotics solutions for autonomous fleet operations
  • Evaluate robotics vendors, suppliers, and strategic partners
  • Work closely with AI, software, hardware, and operations teams
  • Help define the future architecture of autonomous mobility hubs
  • Build relationships with robotics manufacturers, OEMs, and automation partners
  • Lead robotics testing, validation, and commercialization efforts
  • Scale successful pilots into production deployments

Ideal Background

We're looking for leaders who have built robotics products—not just researched them.

Examples include experience with:

  • Autonomous robotics
  • Industrial robotics
  • Mobile robotics
  • Warehouse automation
  • Depot automation
  • Manufacturing automation
  • Service robotics
  • Logistics automation
  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Robotics infrastructure
  • Hardware automation
  • Robotics startups

Required Experience

  • 10+ years building robotics, automation, or autonomous systems
  • Experience leading robotics engineering teams
  • Successfully built robotics products from concept through deployment
  • Experience hiring and scaling robotics organizations
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering
  • Experience managing robotics suppliers, OEMs, or manufacturing partners
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving startup environments

Nice to Have

  • Autonomous vehicle experience
  • Waymo, Zoox, Aurora, Nuro, Kodiak, Agility, Boston Dynamics, Figure, Apptronik, Dexterity, Intrinsic, Amazon Robotics, GreyOrange, Symbotic, or similar experience
  • Depot automation
  • Fleet automation
  • AI or Agentic AI
  • Computer vision
  • Manipulation
  • Motion planning
  • ROS
  • Simulation
  • Sensor fusion
  • Autonomous charging
  • Fleet management
  • Hardware/software integration
  • Robotics pilot programs

What Success Looks Like

In your first 12 months, you'll help Autzu:

  • Build its robotics organization
  • Launch multiple robotics pilot programs
  • Develop autonomous hub technologies
  • Establish strategic robotics partnerships
  • Create the roadmap for robotics-enabled fleet operations
  • Position Autzu as a leader in autonomous mobility infrastructure

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation + meaningful equity
  • Opportunity to build the robotics organization from the ground up
  • Direct partnership with the executive team
  • Significant influence on company strategy
  • Opportunity to shape the future of autonomous mobility at global scale
