Job Description

Responsible for developing and maintaining the computer systems required to control the refinery. Scope includes engineering and maintenance of control and applications, understanding variables and constraints, modifying programming to meet optimization, profitability, and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) objectives. In this role you will be expected to select, design, procure, install, develop, commission, and maintain the control systems.

  • Perform oversight role in Controls change (MOC) implementation to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Daily consultations with Planning and Operations resources to optimize targets.
  • Implement and maintain Controls applications for process control such as CPM, Trace, Dynamo, and PI.
  • Consult on projects involving process control applications, sponsoring Controls upgrade projects as needed.
  • Engineer and implement effective HMIs for effective operator interaction, complying with corporate standards and good engineering practices for graphics, alarms, and other parts of the operator interface system.
  • Capability of reading/understanding loop diagrams and electrical drawings to implement controls changes and assist Maintenance in troubleshooting.
  • Maintain compliance with refinery MOC process, HAZOP and PHA standards, and alarm rationalization.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Advanced degree in Process Controls is an advantage.
  • Minimum 6 yearsโ€™ experience in process control engineering and implementation, special interest in Honeywell TDC-3000 and Experion.
  • Safety management-- preference for experience with SIS/Safety Manager, AADvance (Rockwell), HIMA, or others.
  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation and field systems such as standalone boiler packages, how they function and interact with controls systems.
  • Effective communications (English), oral and written.
  • Experience and coursework in programming/troubleshooting PLCโ€™s is preferred.
