Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Facilities Manager 1 located in Huntsville, AL Relocation assistance may be provided.
What You Will Get To Do:
The Facilities Maintenance Manager 1 oversees day-to-day maintenance operations for the Huntsville, AL site, ensuring safety, reliability, and cost-effective facility performance. This role supervises a small team of technicians and contractors, prioritizes and schedules preventive and corrective maintenance, manages vendors, and ensures compliance with applicable safety and building standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong planning, communication, and problem-solving skills who can balance urgent needs with long-term asset care.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop a maintenance team, including daily direction, work assignments, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Plan, prioritize, and schedule preventive and corrective maintenance using a CMMS/work-order system.
• Maintain building systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, structural, grounds) to required uptime and reliability targets.
• Coordinate and oversee vendor and contractor work; manage service contracts and obtain competitive bids.
• Monitor and enforce safety programs and procedures; drive a safety-first culture.
• Respond to and manage facility emergencies and after-hours incidents, and coordinate root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Track and report maintenance KPIs (e.g., PM completion, response time, backlog, asset uptime).
• Assist with budgeting, cost control, parts inventory, and procurement for maintenance activities.
• Support facility projects (retrofits, small capital improvements, space moves) and ensure minimal operational disruption.
• Maintain documentation, permits, and compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, local AHJ).
• Collaborate with site leadership and stakeholders to align maintenance priorities with business needs.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance reliability and reduce lifecycle costs.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
Bachelors +5 years of experience, or Masters +3 years of experience or in lieu of degree an additional 4 years of experience
Experience with CMMS/work-order systems and basic maintenance planning/scheduling.
Experience with safety practices and regulations relevant to facility operations.
Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance or higher awarded or reviewed in the last 5 years.
Valid driver's license and ability to support on-call/after-hours needs as required.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
4+ years facilities maintenance experience with building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, general repairs).
1+ year of supervisory or lead experience directing maintenance technicians or contractors.
Associate or bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, or related field; or trade apprenticeship.
Certifications such as CFM, FMP, PMP, OSHA 30, HVAC/Electrical license, or equivalent.
Experience managing vendors, service agreements, and small projects or capital improvements.
Familiarity with energy management, building automation systems (BAS), and reliability, best practices.
Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or multi-building campus environment.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment documentation.
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
Primary Level Salary Range: $95,400.00 - $143,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
