Job description

Job Summary:

The Periop/Materials Mgmt Tech ensures the OR and Anesthesia Teams have what they need to deliver safe, effective care for surgical patients and performs various tasks for the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Establishes and maintains PAR levels for the OR stockrooms, anesthesia carts, and room stock.
  • Maintains all specialty carts such as: Endoscopy, Pediatric, Difficult Airway, Regional Block, Epidural, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Orthopedics, and other carts as needed.
  • Prepares all anesthesia procedure areas per case, including but not limited to, retrieving appropriate medications, and affirming appropriate airway devices are readily available.
  • Create requisitions and submit orders as needed.
  • Check and ensure all emergency supplies are rotated and expired items are removed and re-ordered as appropriate.
  • Communicate issues that arise with appropriate leadership in Supply Chain, OR, and Anesthesia.
  • Ensure Anesthesia procedure carts in rooms are stocked and ready each morning.
  • Sort and stock laundry.
  • Monitor temperature of blanket and fluid warmers, refrigerator, freezers, and Quat Levels.
  • Assist the OR team with room setup, including retrieving equipment, case carts, and supplies, as well as removing unnecessary equipment from OR suites and placing it in the storage room.
  • Assist with other tasks, such as patient transport, patient transfer and positioning, and transporting specimens to the Lab.
  • Maintain supply levels in the OR suites.
  • Perform cycle counts as needed, adjust inventory, receive supplies as appropriate, pick supply orders, and ensure shipping cardboard is removed from the OR area.
  • Verify accuracy of ordered supplies and communicate with Buyer for returns/corrections.
  • Responsible for case cart supply and instrument "picking".
  • Reviewing preference cards for each case scheduled for the following day and picking supplies/instruments needed to perform the case.
  • Communicating any missing supplies or instruments to the OR Charge and coordinating any instrument turnover needs with Sterile processing for the instruments needed for the following day.
  • Maintain Bone and Tissue log and monitor bone and tissue freezer for outdates.
  • Coordinate with OR charge and Materials for any bone and tissue requested that need to be ordered for patient-specific needs.
  • Occasionally meet with vendor representatives to verify counts of consigned supplies.
  • Maintains all required competencies and completes annual compliance courses on time.
  • Supporting student learning is a shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to contribute to creating a welcoming environment and to actively assist students in their educational experience, regardless of their specific role.
  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

  • High school diploma required.
