Job description

The Personal Trainer is responsible for developing personal exercise programs for YMCA members, providing individual or small group instruction, and helping members achieve their health and fitness goals in a safe, motivating environment aligned with the YMCA's mission and core values.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fitness assessments and develop individualized workout plans.
  • Provide personal and small group training sessions.
  • Monitor progress, modify programs as needed, and track member performance.
  • Educate clients on proper form, equipment use, and general fitness principles.
  • Promote the YMCA's health and wellness programs and encourage participation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming fitness environment.
  • Build positive relationships with members, staff, and the community.
  • Stay current with fitness trends and certification requirements.

    • Maintenance employees and volunteers-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.
    • Front desk personnel-ensure consumers are properly signed in and signed out,ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor's in Exercise Science or related field preferred).
  • Current Personal Trainer Certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, ISSA).
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (YMCA or nationally recognized).
  • Prior experience in personal training or health & wellness coaching preferred.
  • Strong communication, motivation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Working Conditions:
  • Active, fitness-based environment.
  • Requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and demonstrating exercises.
