About the Role
Our client, a leading provider in the property and casualty insurance industry, is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer | Level I to join their technology team. This role offers the opportunity to work within a large-scale enterprise environment supporting mission-critical systems that serve millions of customers. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation, a proactive mindset, and a passion for building reliable, automated infrastructure solutions.

Job Description
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the internal systems that keep the business running smoothly. You will work across servers, networking, storage, and security platforms while contributing to automation, monitoring, and process improvement initiatives. This position also involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior staff, and providing high-quality customer service to internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Designing and implementing monitoring, automation, configuration management, and reporting functions to support a hands-off environment (Managed File Transfer, SFTP, etc.).
  • Designing, installing, configuring, managing, and maintaining internal servers/VMs, networking, storage devices, and firewalls (VMware, Progress, Connect:Direct, Windows, UNIX, Check Point, etc.).
  • Adhering to change management processes, incident response protocols, and testing methodologies for system and software modifications, including anticipating, mitigating, identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving issues.
  • Documenting, addressing, and resolving all customer incidents, problems, and requests in a timely manner.
  • Performing regular systems maintenance, including OS/application patches, generic ID management, application updates, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Developing documentation for new and existing systems.
  • Providing excellent customer service by understanding and addressing customer needs through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Mentoring junior team members.
  • Developing and implementing project plans, risk assessments, and contingency plans (e.g., disaster recovery and business continuity planning, testing, and response).
  • Defining and documenting best practices and support procedures.
  • Providing after-hours support for infrastructure-related emergencies, as well as occasional weekend maintenance.
  • Assisting with hardware and software vendor evaluation, recommendation, and negotiation.
  • Supporting internal and external audits by providing documentation and evidence.
  • Interacting with staff at a technical level as required.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience designing, installing, and maintaining servers, VMs, networking, storage devices, and firewalls in an enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on experience with technologies such as VMware, Windows, UNIX, Check Point, Progress, and Connect:Direct.
  • Working knowledge of Managed File Transfer (MFT), SFTP, and related automation/configuration management tools.
  • Familiarity with change management processes, incident response, and testing methodologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across infrastructure systems and software.
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to provide after-hours and occasional weekend support for infrastructure emergencies and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior team members.
