Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Sow Farm Manager
  1. Manage and participation in farm production
    1. Manage and train employees to follow all production and protocols and procedures
    2. Monitor protocols to maximize sow production and efficiencies
    3. Ensure accurate inventory management of both swine and supplies
    4. Monitor feed inventory and place orders in a timely fashion
    5. If unit has designated Assistant Manager, Farm Manager must train individual in all aspects of management
    6. Must be able to send and receive reports and e-mails via computer
    7. Participate with Human Resources in recruiting, and retaining farm employees
  2. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels of farm involvement
    1. Utilize task sheets were possible and time frames to maintain an organized workday
    2. Create and utilize consistent monitoring of task schedules for both the Assistant Farm Manger and Barn Leads
    3. Provide consistent communication for both pig deliveries and pick-ups
  3. Ensure farm paperwork is completed accurately and on time
    1. HR paperwork must be completed on time to ensure accuracy in payroll
    2. Ensure completion of all work-related injury paperwork and participate as necessary in accident investigations
    3. Ensure employees are properly trained on how to complete paperwork in their respective areas of work. Submit production records and location related records on time
  4. Biosecurity Adherence
    1. Train and manage all staff to adhere to all biosecurity protocols
    2. Take appropriate measures to ensure biosecurity audit deficiencies are corrected and brought into compliance in a timely basis
  1. Safe Working Environment
    1. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines
    2. Ensure all safety equipment is in place and utilized
    3. Ensure all employees are trained in accident prevention for the area they work in
    4. Hold monthly safety meeting with employees
    5. Maintain all safety sign off sheets up to date
    6. Consistently monitor all animal welfare procedures
  2. Ventilation controls
  1. Monitor and ensure entire ventilation system is in good working order
  2. Regularly monitor the environment to achieve optimum comfort for the animals
  3. Train designated employees to monitor ventilation system in the Farms Managerโ€™s absence
  1. Facility Maintenance
    1. The facility must be maintained and well kept
    2. Train and direct staff to complete routine maintenance on a daily basis
    3. Communicate non-routine repairs to the maintenance department
    4. Train and direct staff to keep interior of the unit clean and organized
    5. Train and direct staff to keep outside of the unit clean and presentable
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Other duties and projects as assigned by Production Supervisor
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED Required
Prefer 2 Years Post High School Education in Agricultural Field
Experience: Prefer 4+ Years Livestock Experience and 2 years Swine Experience
Work Environment: Agricultural swine environment in rural area
Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas
Gestation, farrowing, and small swine care processes
Physical Requirements: Standing, walking and ability to be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day
Frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling
Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull
Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-20 pounds
Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up
to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move
Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up
to 100 pounds or requiring up to 100 pounds of force to move with
the assistance of another person as needed
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to attend and participate in meeting
Additional Requirements: Must be able to work weekends
Must have a valid driverโ€™s license and reliable transportation to get to
work and attend meetings
Basic computer knowledge to send/receive emails and reports
