Make a measurable difference in the lives of babies and toddlers in the care of Malta House. In this full-time position, the Nursery Assistant will be responsible for day-to-day direct care of babies and toddlers, assisting in meeting their emotional and physical needs. This position assists in implementing the education portion of the program and maintaining a clean, safe, organized and trauma-informed learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESAssist in the direct physical, social and developmental care of infants and toddlers in the nursery.
Educate parents on best practices and recommend proper safety and care under the supervision of the Nursery Director.
Maintain a clean, safe, organized and trauma-informed learning environment in the nursery.
Attend necessary professional development trainings and staff meeting.
Maintain confidentiality for all persons served.
Complete all other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSLifting up to 25 lbs without assistance.
Mobility: walking (including up and down stairs), standing, sitting, running, and playing on the floor, ability to use an elevator.
Stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, stooping (bend at waist) frequently,
Must be able to reliably commute to location in Norwalk, CT.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCEQualified candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalent certificate, and the personal qualities necessary to care for and work with children and relate to adults, including parents and staff.
Preference given to candidates who possess Lead Teacher certification from the State of Connecticut.
Excellent communication, organizational and administrative skills with ability to read, write and understand English. Bilingual ability is a plus.
Ability to demonstrate initiative, follow-through and problem solving skills.
Ability to accept and adapt to changing emotional needs of babies.
Possess empathy and compassion for low-income and homeless families, individuals and children in need.
Reliability to meet deadlines, adhere to scheduled meetings, and be on time to work.
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATIONThe full-time position offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, including a benefits package that includes vacation, holiday and sick pay as well as eligibility for medical coverage and a 401(k) plan.
SCHEDULEA 40-hour schedule that falls between 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon - Fri., as agreed upon with manager. Work is in-person onsite in Norwalk, CT
