To thrive as a Makeup Intern, you need a basic understanding of makeup application techniques, color theory, and sanitation standards, often backed by coursework or a makeup artistry certificate. Familiarity with makeup products, brushes, and tools—as well as digital portfolios or scheduling software—is commonly expected. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality work, maintaining a professional work environment, and supporting senior artists effectively.

A Makeup Intern assists professional makeup artists with tasks such as prepping makeup kits, organizing products, setting up workstations, and sometimes applying basic makeup under supervision. They may also help with cleaning brushes, maintaining hygiene standards, and running errands during photo shoots, fashion shows, or film sets. This role offers hands-on experience, allowing interns to learn about different makeup techniques, products, and industry standards while building their portfolio and professional network.

What types of projects and tasks can a Makeup Intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Makeup Intern, you can expect to assist senior makeup artists on photo shoots, fashion shows, or film sets by preparing workstations, organizing products, and helping with basic makeup application. You may also help with administrative tasks such as inventory management, scheduling, and maintaining hygiene standards for tools and products. This hands-on experience allows you to observe industry techniques, build a professional network, and develop your portfolio, all of which are valuable for advancing to more senior roles in makeup artistry.
