Job description

Position Summary
Under supervision of the Field Maintenance Supervisor, performs the upkeep and maintenance of landscaped areas, and immediate village area; also performs general maintenance work on roads, Tribal facilities, building and equipment; care of bison herd, poultry, fencing and Community Garden. Additional anticipated support for tribal related activities, preparation for cultural use and village areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Performs basic landscape and ground development and maintenance tasks including, planting, cultivation, weeding, mowing, trimming, irrigation, fertilization, pruning and spraying.
  2. Operates, maintains, and repairs associated power equipment.
  3. Maintains existing fences and installs new fences as needed.
  4. Layout, install, operate, maintain and repair associated irrigation systems.
  5. Lay out and install landscape systems.
  6. Cleans grounds and removes litter/debris, refinishes paved surfaces, cuts weeds. Sweeps walkways, shovels snow and applies ice melt to prevent ice buildup.
  7. Responsible for the care, maintenance and inventory of associated supplies and equipment owned by the property and/or the Pueblo of Sandia.
  8. Post cleanup and repair from extreme weather conditions. Early prep prior to facility workforce shifts.
  9. Using hand and power tools, performs basic building construction and repair tasks.
  10. Operates, maintains and repairs associated power tools and equipment.
  11. BISON range management: Evaluates range condition, health of animals, and conducts pasture rotations, barn and property maintenance and cleanup. Hauls and maintains hay bale inventory, assists with weaning, vaccinations and when called upon butchering.
  12. Bale Wagon Operator: Maintains a quality environment through cooperation collaboration while hauling bales for community farmers. Responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of Bale Wagon. Being helpful, supportive and giving prompt attention to Bale Wagon services.
  13. Farming of Community fields and Orchard, applies agricultural practices: Develops and maintains the community Farm. Duties include but are not limited to, Harvesting, irrigating, planting, cultivating, weed control, mowing, fertilization, spraying, pruning and collection of seeds. Operate, maintain and repair a small greenhouse.
  14. Proper customer service regarding distribution of any resources provided by the Pueblo of Sandia which may be dry or packaged goods to harvested produce that may have to be portioned or prepared per customer.
  15. Boundary, right-of-way, and project fence maintenance and repair: Performs and constructs various types of fences, using basic fencing techniques.
  16. Responsible for daily upkeep of the property buildings and grounds which includes cleaning and removing of trash.
  17. Responsible for thorough knowledge of the Pueblo of Sandia policies and property community policies.
  18. The above-listed duties are intended to be general in nature and level of work performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
  19. Haul equipment, furniture, material, or items directed by Management or Tribal Administration.
  20. Village cleanup or prep as assigned.
  21. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned schedule each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo of Sandia.

  1. Possess knowledge of plant characteristics, landscape layout and development.
  2. Possess knowledge of principals of landscape maintenance.
  3. Ability to work under limited supervision and to supervise and direct work to others.
  4. Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment used in landscape and grounds installations, and farming
  5. Ability to operate and maintain small equipment used in landscape maintenance, gardening and farming
  6. Ability to use hand and power tools in building construction and repair.
  7. Ability to make basic repairs to mechanical, plumbing and electrical installations.
  8. Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
  9. Ability to maintain equipment and supply inventory.
  10. Knowledge of general safety rules, requirements, procedures and reporting requirements.
  11. Ability to perform duties considering the full use of Personal Protective Equipment without restrictions.

Education and Experience
Required:
  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. Must be able to fit, test, and utilize a respiratory mask as protection from harmful vapors and particulates.

Preferred:
Previous experience.
Note: Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy education and/or work experience.
License/Certifications/Registrations
  1. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver's License.
    1. Must not have been convicted of a DUI in the past three year from the date of hire.
  2. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation and character investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  3. Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.
  4. Ability to obtain and maintain any other licenses and/or certifications as determined by management.
