Job description

Are you looking to make a difference, join a team that is devoted to "Doing the Most Good". The Salvation Army on Mattoon, IL is looking for an individual who would like to apply their experiences, to fill our Custodian position.
This is a part-time, 25 hours per week position. The pay is range $16.00- $17.00 per hour depending on experience.
*Experience pulling trailers, operating fork lift, and a pallet jacks.
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Corps Officer, the custodian/groundskeeper is responsible for the general maintenance of Corps/grounds and custodial duties.
Essential Duties:
  1. Perform housekeeping duties including dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, vacuuming/shampooing/spot cleaning carpets, sweeping/mopping/buffing/stripping/waxing tile floors, etc.
  2. Assist with preventive maintenance of furnaces (changing filters) and other minor maintenance.
  3. Maintain Corps grounds to include yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing, and any additional outside repairs as necessary.
  4. Assist with any small or minor repairs and note any major repair that needs to take place in the buildings.
  5. Assists with up-to-date inventory of cleaning supplies and custodial equipment.
  6. Maintain proper housekeeping in janitorial room.
  7. Assist with preparation of rooms for Corps Programs, luncheons, and other meetings.
  8. Move/pickup furniture, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  9. Make pickups and deliveries as necessary.
  10. Assist Corps Officer with vehicle maintenance.
  11. Assist with fund raising as directed.
  12. Maintain confidentiality.
  13. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, visitors, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about visitors, clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Qualifications:
  1. A High School Diploma or GED with one-year related work experience. Combination of training and experience will be considered.
  2. Ability to comprehend and comply with the job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.
  3. Basic communication skills to facilitate good communications between visitors and other employees.
  4. Requires appropriate valid driver's license (MO "E" or IL "JO2") and must pass The Salvation Army MVR check.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally lifting to 100 pounds. Occasionally moves 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height. Some lifting required above waist and shoulder high, but it will be at a reduced weight. Position will have to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items to accomplish this job. Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.). Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
