Job description

Description Our Mission: Keep Washington Safe and Working. About the Division and Unit The Information Technology (IT) Division is an internal service organization responsible for providing information technology products and services in support of the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) agency's business priorities so that L&I can keep Washington Safe and Working.

Within the IT Division's Maintenance and Operations (M&O) program, the Enterprise Services (ES) program is responsible for the delivery of all IT services to L&I, other state agencies and the public, by providing value through partnership and commitment. The ES program safeguards the health of our computing environments and manages the growth needs of the agency's information and technology assets. The ES program is comprised of three units (Network Infrastructure & Operation (NetOps), Application Infrastructure Support unit, and the IT Support Unit).

The NetOps unit is responsible for ensuring the L&I network, servers, storage and backups, cloud, virtual, and physical are always available and run at their highest efficiency. About the Role As an IT System Administrator - Senior Specialist, you'll join a team of System Administrators responsible for the servers and infrastructure that power L&I around the clock. This role owns the health, development, and 24/7 availability of statewide computer environments which enables all agency staff to conduct business, serve the public, and collect and distribute funds.

You'll create, implement, and support critical servers agency-wide, including physical, virtual, and cloud resources, while applying deep infrastructure expertise to support the Service Desk, DevOps, Application & Data Management, Cloud Enablement, and Mainframe teams. When other staff hit a wall on a complex or high-priority issue, you're the one who solves it. You'll also coordinate with facilities staff, regional office managers, and IT support teams to keep deployments running smoothly with minimal disruption to business.

Working independently and with full authority in your area of responsibility, you'll design, build, test, and deploy servers across L&I's field offices, the state data center, and the cloud - managing the infrastructure that ties the whole agency together. Duties Some of what you'll do: System Administration Serve as a lead subject matter expert on L&I's servers and systems, guiding field office managers, the Service Desk, DevOps, and Application & Data Management teams. Independently plan, test, configure, and deploy servers and virtual workstation infrastructure across physical, virtual, and cloud environments, including hardware and software upgrades.

Build and maintain core network systems, such as Domain Controllers, Domain Name System (DNS), Distributed File System (DFS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and more to meet I required standards and integrate these systems within the L&I Network Infrastructure. Troubleshoot complex installation and upgrade issues independently or in partnership with technical staff and developers. Use monitoring tools, command-line utilities, and scripting to diagnose and resolve complex network infrastructure issues.

Administer Active Directory, including group policies, site replication, organizational units, groups, computers, and printers. Manage DNS records, DHCP scopes and reservations, and SSL certificates across all L&I platforms Manage print servers and the Follow Me Print application. Monitor server performance across multiple platforms to identify and resolve statewide outages Respond to Service Desk tickets requiring advanced technical support Network Operations Support Respond to incident tickets routed to Network Operations, documenting resolutions and building hand-off guidance to help the Service Desk resolve similar issues faster Support projects and work coming through ADO Serve as subject matter expert for server creation, modification, and support on new initiatives Collaborate with the broader Network Operations team on ongoing activities Resolve server access and service issues for agency staff statewide Represent Network Operations on Incident Response Teams (IRTs) requiring server expertise Incident and Problem Resolution Participate in the Incident Response Team (IRT) process as a technical resource for network infrastructure issues Bring best practice methodology and problem-solving insight to cross-functional resolution efforts Respond to network or server issues 24/7 to maintain availability and minimize business impact And much more..

Qualifications Required: Ten (10) years of qualifying professional System Administration IT experience* working full-time within a professional IT environment. OR A bachelor's degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or a closely related field. AND Six (6) years' of *qualifying professional IT experience* working full-time within a professional IT environment (see below).

OR An associate's degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or a closely related field AND Eight (8) years of *qualifying professional IT experience* working full-time within a professional IT environment (see below). *Qualifying professional IT Experience* includes but is not limited to the following: Current Windows Server Operating systems Supporting Physical and Virtual Servers Managing/Supporting Cloud resources (Azure, Amazon, and others) Administrating and managing PKI Certificates Supporting DHCP, DNS, and Active Directory Required Equity Competencies The ability to take action to learn and grow The ability to take actions to meet the needs of others Desired: Certification from Microsoft, Server+, VMware, Cloud, CompTIA Supplemental Information Things You Need To Know At L&I, your voice matters.
