Job Summary:
Alpha Consulting Corp. is seeking an experienced Senior z/OS Systems Programmer / Mainframe Administrator to manage enterprise mainframe environments. The role involves administering IBM z/OS systems, performing upgrades, and providing technical support while collaborating with various teams to ensure platform stability.
Responsibilities:
• Administer, maintain, and support IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
• Manage and maintain GDPS and Parallel Sysplex configurations.
• Perform system software installation, maintenance, and upgrades using SMP/E.
• Execute POR procedures and implement automation solutions.
• Support and manage z/OS, JES2, TSO/ISPF, DFSMS, VTAM, HMC, HCD, and related system components.
• Install, customize, and maintain IBM and ISV software products and utilities.
• Develop and implement UserMods and system enhancements.
• Plan and execute disaster recovery activities, including DR drills and recovery testing.
• Perform hardware refreshes, operating system migrations, and version upgrades.
• Analyze and optimize system performance, MIPS consumption, and capacity utilization.
• Drive software rationalization and specialty engine exploitation initiatives.
• Provide Level 3 technical support and serve as a subject matter expert for mainframe infrastructure.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure platform stability and availability.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 10+ years of experience in z/OS Administration and Mainframe Systems Programming.
• Strong expertise in z/Architecture, GDPS, and Sysplex setup and maintenance.
• Extensive experience with SMP/E installation and maintenance activities.
• Strong hands-on experience with POR procedures and automation.
• Deep knowledge of z/OS, JES2, TSO/ISPF, DFSMS, VTAM, HMC, and HCD.
• Experience with IBM and third-party ISV utilities and tools.
• Proven experience in disaster recovery planning, setup, and execution.
• Experience with mainframe migrations, hardware refreshes, and version upgrades.
• Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
• Experience with MIPS optimization and capacity planning.
• Knowledge of specialty engines (zIIP, zAAP) and workload optimization.
• Exposure to enterprise automation and monitoring tools.
