What We're Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong background in highway, hydraulics, stormwater and/or environmental design to support and grow our Highway/Civil Design practice. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and proven experience delivering complex civil engineering projects.

You will lead and support the development of infrastructure projects, riverine and coastal hydraulics, environmental permitting and stormwater design and management. Experience working with agencies such as MassDOT, RIDOT, CTDOT, NYSDOT  and MaineDOT is strongly preferred.

This position is based in our Boston (Waltham) MA office.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and support a team of engineers in the design and production of construction drawings.
  • Prepare and/or review project bid documents including plans, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
  • Execute civil engineering tasks such as stormwater design, hydraulic and scour analysis and environmental permitting.
  • Serve as Task Lead, collaborating with Project Managers on project progress, issues, and risks.
  • Prepare technical studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, and supporting material.
  • Conduct occasional site visits and prepare findings for engineering and project management teams.
  • Participate in client communication, project meetings, and issue resolution.
  • Define scopes of work and staff-hour needs for proposals.
  • Assist in ensuring project schedules and budgets are achieved.
  • Contribute to technical aspects of proposal development and project pursuits.
  • Mentor EITs, junior engineers, and technicians to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through training, seminars, and continued learning.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with contract plans.
  • Support proposal and capture efforts for new opportunities.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 20+ years of infrastructure design experience with transportation agencies such as MassDOT, RIDOT, CTDOT, NYSDOT  and MaineDOT
  • Strong working knowledge of Federal and State Design standards.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in MA, CT, or RI (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn company procedures, software, service offerings, and client standards.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D hydraulic modeling and software, stormwater design software
  • and Microsoft Office Suite. Civil modeling software such as Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation a plus.

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $180,000 - $240,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
