How much do magnetic shielding jobs pay per week?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average weekly pay for magnetic shielding in the United States is $2,120.87, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $1,605.77 and $2,596.15 per week, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Magnetic Shielding Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Magnetic Shielding Engineer, you need a strong background in physics or electrical engineering, experience with electromagnetic theory, and typically a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation software such as COMSOL Multiphysics, CAD tools, and knowledge of materials used for magnetic shielding is crucial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective collaboration skills help you design and implement optimal shielding solutions. These skills ensure the creation of effective shielding systems that protect sensitive equipment and maintain safety and performance standards.

What is magnetic shielding?

Magnetic shielding is the process of reducing the magnetic field in a specific area by redirecting the magnetic field lines using materials with high magnetic permeability, such as mu-metal or soft iron. This technique is commonly used to protect sensitive electronic equipment from external magnetic interference, ensuring accurate measurements and device functioning. Magnetic shielding is essential in applications like medical imaging (MRI), scientific instruments, and data storage devices to prevent unwanted magnetic disturbances.

What is the difference between Magnetic Shielding vs Magnetic Field Technician?

AspectMagnetic ShieldingMagnetic Field Technician
CredentialsEngineering degrees, certifications in magnetic materialsTechnical certifications, training in magnetic measurement
Work EnvironmentManufacturing facilities, laboratoriesField sites, testing labs
Industry UsageDesigning and implementing magnetic shieldsMeasuring and analyzing magnetic fields

Magnetic Shielding involves designing and installing materials to block or reduce magnetic fields, often requiring engineering expertise. Magnetic Field Technicians focus on measuring and analyzing magnetic fields using specialized equipment. While both roles work within the same industry and may share some certifications, their primary responsibilities differ: shielding vs measurement.

What jobs work with magnets?

Jobs that work with magnets include roles in magnetic shielding, electronics, and manufacturing, where professionals design and test magnetic materials or devices. These jobs often require knowledge of electromagnetism, specialized tools, and safety protocols to handle strong magnetic fields safely.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in magnetic shielding, and how are they addressed within a project team?

Professionals in magnetic shielding often encounter challenges such as accurately modeling complex magnetic fields, selecting appropriate shielding materials, and ensuring effective integration with sensitive equipment. These challenges are typically addressed through close collaboration with electrical engineers, physicists, and materials scientists, as well as iterative simulation and prototyping. Regular team meetings and interdisciplinary reviews help ensure that shielding solutions meet both technical and project requirements, fostering a supportive environment for problem-solving and innovation.

Job description

Founded in 1965, Amuneal Manufacturing Corporation has grown from a small family business to a leading custom manufacturer with two divisions: one for magnetic shielding and another for high-end architectural products. Serving scientists, architects, designers, and engineers, its ISO 9001 Certified Technical Products Division creates precision magnetic shields for industries such as semiconductor fabrication, cryogenics, aerospace, and healthcare. Recently, Amuneal expanded to a 50,000 square foot facility in Bangkok, Thailand, to support growing demand from Southeast Asia, making it the only US-based magnetic shielding supplier with international capabilities.
Amuneal is looking for eager and motivated Application/ Sales Engineers to join our team. Application/ Sales Engineers work directly with our customers as their single point of contact, assisting them through the technical development of their shielding designs, price estimating, engineering support, and excellent customer service for the life-cycle of their products.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop expertise in the theories and the fabrication techniques used to design and manufacture our custom magnetic shielding.
  • Develop shielding strategies and accurate cost estimates based on the unique needs of our customers.
  • Develop strong relationships with our internal engineering and fabrication teams to foster an open collaborative environment.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through effective communication and proactive follow-through.
  • Help to translate technical product information into customer-friendly language and engineering drawings as required.
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams to ensure timely delivery and quality of products.
  • Participate in marketing and selling activities, including representing Amuneal with occasional customer visits, and participation in industry-related trade shows.
  • Provide feedback from customers to assist in product development and improvement efforts.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or other deeply technical course of study.
  • A technical understanding of magnetic shielding and material science is preferred, but the demonstrated ability to acquire and retain technical information is a must.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand fabrication specifications.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven sales or customer service experience, ideally in a technical or engineering-related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using 3D modeling software, Excel, and other digital tools.
  • Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and customer needs.
  • Track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets, growth objectives, and goals.

Our work is custom in nature and highly evolving. As part of our Technical Products team, you will work on a diverse set of challenging projects. Applicants should have experience and be able to thrive both in a collaborative setting and on solo tasks.
This role offers a competitive salary in addition to inclusion in the company's profit sharing, 401K, medical, and dental programs.
