Job description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an eCommerce Technical Lead in Netherlands.

We are looking for a highly skilled eCommerce Technical Lead to take ownership of a complex and business-critical digital commerce ecosystem. In this role, you will drive the technical evolution of a high-traffic eCommerce platform, balancing system reliability, performance, and feature delivery while ensuring long-term scalability. Working closely with business and technology stakeholders, you will influence architectural decisions, improve development standards, and solve challenging technical problems across multiple integrated systems. This is a hands-on leadership position where coding, technical oversight, and strategic thinking are equally important. You'll have the opportunity to shape future engineering practices, mentor contributors, and play a key role in supporting ambitious growth objectives within a collaborative and fast-paced international environment.

Accountabilities
  • Own the technical direction, performance, reliability, and overall quality of the eCommerce platform and its critical integrations.
  • Lead technical execution across frontend and backend initiatives, ensuring scalable architecture, maintainable code, and timely delivery of new features.
  • Develop, review, and maintain production-ready code while actively reducing technical debt through refactoring and modernization efforts.
  • Manage and optimize integrations between commerce systems and key business platforms, including ERP, payment solutions, order management, content management, product information management, and search technologies.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues, performance bottlenecks, deployment challenges, and platform reliability concerns.
  • Conduct in-depth code reviews for internal developers and external partners, providing actionable feedback and maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Establish and reinforce best practices for software development, documentation, testing, deployment, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions while communicating trade-offs and project risks effectively.
  • Support the future growth of the engineering function through mentoring, technical leadership, and eventual people-management responsibilities.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years working with large-scale eCommerce platforms such as Magento 2, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, commercetools, or similar solutions.
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience developing production applications using Vue 3, Nuxt, React, Next.js, or comparable frameworks.
  • Proven experience working with headless or decoupled commerce architectures and modern content management systems.
  • Solid background integrating eCommerce platforms with ERP systems and other business-critical technologies, including payments, OMS, PIM, search platforms, and customer data solutions.
  • Practical experience with caching technologies, performance optimization, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, incident management, and production support.
  • Strong understanding of frontend user experience principles and the ability to assess both technical quality and customer impact.
  • Experience collaborating with external agencies, vendors, and distributed development teams, including reviewing deliverables and influencing technical decisions.
  • Familiarity with PHP and Magento 2 environments is advantageous, particularly for architecture reviews and technical oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and balance business priorities with engineering best practices.
  • Previous technical leadership, mentoring, or team guidance experience is highly valued.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation ranging from $35 to $48 USD per hour.
  • Long-term independent contractor engagement with a stable international organization.
  • Fully remote work environment with flexibility to work from Europe.
  • Opportunity to work on a large-scale, revenue-generating eCommerce platform with significant technical ownership.
  • Exposure to modern commerce technologies, complex system integrations, and international business operations.
  • Career growth opportunities, including future leadership and people-management responsibilities.
  • Collaborative, distributed team environment with direct impact on platform strategy and business outcomes.
  • Occasional international travel opportunities for team meetings and company events.
  • Flexible work structure designed for experienced professionals operating independently.
