Magazine Intern information

What is a magazine intern?

Magazine interns are typically students or recent graduates who work temporarily at a magazine, assisting with editorial, administrative, or marketing tasks. Their responsibilities often include fact-checking, proofreading, researching topics, writing articles, and helping with social media or events. Internships provide hands-on experience in the publishing industry and an opportunity to learn from experienced editors and writers. Magazine interns also gain valuable networking opportunities and build skills that can help them pursue a career in journalism or media.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a magazine intern expect during their internship?

As a Magazine Intern, you can expect to assist with a wide range of tasks, including fact-checking articles, conducting research for features, supporting editorial meetings, and helping with social media or digital content updates. Interns often have opportunities to pitch story ideas and write short pieces or sidebars, depending on the publication. This role provides hands-on exposure to the editorial process and allows you to learn from experienced writers, editors, and designers, making it a valuable stepping stone for a career in publishing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a magazine intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Magazine Intern, you need strong writing, research, and editing abilities, often supported by coursework or a degree in journalism, communications, or English. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), social media platforms, and basic photo editing tools like Adobe Photoshop is commonly expected. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude help interns stand out in fast-paced editorial environments. These skills enable interns to contribute effectively to content production, meet deadlines, and support the editorial team’s overall success.

What is the difference between Magazine Intern vs Editorial Assistant?

AspectMagazine InternEditorial Assistant

Henderson, Nevada:  Incorporated in 1953, Henderson is Nevada’s second largest city with more than 302,000 residents.  Our city is pleased to be recognized as the Second Safest City in America by Forbes magazine and three times named to MONEY magazine’s list of “Best Places to Live in America.”  Our favorable tax structure, award-winning health care locations, accredited parks, police and fire departments all contribute to these accolades setting our community apart.

While our city has grown to host a variety of metropolitan cultural arts and nationally recognized special events, we retain our small-town values and atmosphere.  Annual events and local parades are still held in the Water Street District, our original “main street.”  Our community also celebrates the grand openings of local businesses, accomplishments of our youth and contributions of our centenarians.  With numerous parks, mixed-use shopping areas, master-planned communities and senior living neighborhoods, Henderson is a place where all can live, learn, work and play.  Henderson is not just a place to live, but truly a place to call home.
