Job description

About Arena Magazine

Arena is a high end print media company telling the Great American Story of entrepreneurship, technology, and capital. We have a print magazine and coffee table books division. We're based in Austin, TX. Read our content here.

About the Role

At Arena, we think print is a media frontier, and we are building a print-first company. In a little over two years, we've published over 1,600 pages of magazines and books. We're looking for a talented designer to work on the next 10,000 pages - and the digital interfaces we use to bring them to the world.

Your core skillset is editorial and print design; and mastery of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma. As well as an interest in keeping up with new design tools. In this role, you'll design beautiful printed products and amazing interfaces for them.

You'll spend time both on long-running processes like typesetting and editorial design for our flagship quarterly magazine, working closely with the editorial team and our art director to make every magazine special; design for coffee table books; and on creative exploration for new products, too.

The core focus of the role is print design, but experience in web & interface design is a plus. The interfaces our readers use to discover and collect our work are important, too.

You!
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Fan of Arena: You already enjoy Arena! Liking the content and our vibe is going to be key to a successful role here
  • Self-Starter: You don't need to be asked
  • Attention to Detail: You sweat the small stuff
  • Startup: You actively want to join a startup; you abhor corporate bureaucracy
  • This role will require working hard and with availability at most times during the day

We have a strong preference for Austin, TX based, or willingness to move to Austin
