Job description

Job Summary:
Sets up and operate conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following Duties and Responsibilities as described below.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work safely
  • Review blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Measures, dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Daily calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Daily starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Daily verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Communicates with supervisor to resolve machine or assembly challenges
  • Daily organizes time independently to complete jobs in an efficient manner.
  • Daily completes reports on the job and record necessary data on the job cards including material usage.
  • Daily inspects own work as well as others when instructed to do so.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have mechanical aptitude to use machining equipment and measuring instruments
  • Must be able to read and write in English, bi-lingual a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbal and written
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and ask for assistance when appropriate
  • Ability to read blueprints and have problem-solving skills
  • Ability to run overhead hoist to move parts
  • Operates pallet jacks, forklifts, hoists and overhead cranes in a safe manner.
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Independent Action:

Duties are performed independently. Set up machine parts per spec; machining parts; measure and record dimensions on completed parts for quality. Recommend and implement process improvements/efficiencies based on department objectives.
