Precision Machining Instructor / Senior CNC Machining Trainer - Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing setting

Location: 3617 E La Salle St, Phoenix, AZ 85040

Shift: Full time, day shift

Job Summary

The Precision Machining Instructor / Senior CNC Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive technical training programs for prospective CNC machinists. You will mentor new hire trainees and existing staff in the operation and optimization of mills and lathes, blueprint reading, quality inspection, quality inspection & deburring techniques, and meticulous documentation processes.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development:

  • Create and update standardized training process, setup sheets, and visual aids.

Safety Training:

  • PPE Compliance
  • Machine Guarding
  • Lockout/Tagout
  • Material Handling
  • Fire prevention and emergency responses

CNC Technical Instruction:

  • Lead hands-on training for operation of CNC mills and lathes, including basic tool offsets, G-code/M-code, tool wear recognition, basic machine troubleshooting.

Quality & Inspection:

  • Instruct on the importance of First Article Inspections, ensuring every dimension of a new part is verified before full production.
  • Non-Conformance training
  • FOD awareness

Blueprint Reading & GD&T:

  • Teach workforce to interpret engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure part compliance.

Documentation & Paperwork:

  • Train the workforce on ERP usage, filling out inspection reports, production logs, and maintaining records for quality standards.

Post-Machining Processes:

  • Train operators on precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges) to verify tight tolerances.
  • Instruct on proper deburring, polishing, and finishing techniques to meet surface finish requirements without compromising part integrity.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of advanced CNC machining (mills/lathes) and using various precision hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Proven track record of mentoring or formal instruction in a CNC machining setting preferred.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand instructions for diverse learning styles.
  • Deep understanding of safety expectations, documentation accuracy requirements, and high-precision quality control.
  • CMI Group is an ITAR regulated facility. Employees must be able to meet the US Person requirement.
