The CNC Machine Operator I is an is a trainee/apprentice level position that is responsible for producing machined parts by operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe or milling machine, maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  1. Operate drill presses, manual milling machines, CNC milling machines, manual lathes and CNC lathes under close supervision.
  2. Load and unload raw materials and parts into the machine.
  3. Inspect and measure finished product using calipers, gauges, micrometers, and other machinist hand tools.
  4. Compare finished product to drawing specifications to determine if they adhere to company quality standards.
  5. Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations and taking measurements.
  6. Notify the supervisor or area lead if more complex tool or machine adjustments are required.
  7. Optimize production by performing secondary work such as deburring or drilling while the machines are running.
  8. Keep work area in clean and orderly condition, complying with established 5S standards.
  9. Maintain a safe work environment to prevent on-the-job injuries by following and promoting company, OSHA and EPA rules and regulations, implementing machine safeguards, recognizing and reporting safety hazards and follow all safety procedures and standards.
  10. Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Experience in a machine shop environment is preferred.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand basic English. Proficiency in basic math and trigonometry. Ability to communicate and work as a team member. Ability to use measuring tools.
Physical Demand Requirements
Required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
