Job description

JOB TITLE: Machine Operator I
STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Cell Coordinator
General Purpose of the Job:
Basic Operation and adjustment of machines.
Education:
Requires use of basic drawings, general shop math, handbook formulas, and some measuring instruments such as caliper, micrometers, and scale.
Experience:
Minimum six (6) months exposure to production environment.
Physical Demand:
Sustained physical effort, requiring continuity of effort working with light or average weight material. Usually short cycle work requiring continuous activity, or the operation of several machines where the handling time is equivalent to the total machine time.
Mental and/or Visual Demand:
Continuous mental or visual attention; usually short cycle repetitive work or diversified operations requiring constant alertness.
Working Conditions:
Good working conditions. Exposure to cutting oils. Typical machine shop working conditions.
Job Duties:
Operate machine, controlling speed and feed and using various tools in successive operations.
Work from route sheets, part drawings, and specifications.
Under general supervision, set regulating wheel speed and angle, position and set feed, fixtures, and stops to suit job requirements.
Use a variety of precision instruments such as scale, square, caliper, micrometers, verniers, indicators, contour gauges, etc.
Work is subject to process and final inspection and check.
Required to purchase "tools of the trade" when necessary.
Responsible for keeping assigned machines and work area clean.
May perform other duties inherent to the job.
