Job description

An established U.S. precision manufacturer is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead a small CNC machining department in a hands-on working-supervisor capacity. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled programmer-machinist who can independently take work from print through programming, setup, prove-out, inspection, and production while training others and taking ownership of day-to-day shop operations.

The Company

  • Established U.S. manufacturer producing highly engineered precision components in a quality-driven, regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Operates a high-mix, low-volume environment with significant variety in parts, quantities, setups, and machining requirements.
  • Small, hands-on Machine Shop where technical depth, versatility, troubleshooting ability, and individual ownership are highly valued.

The Compensation

  • $65-85K Base Compensation Range Commensurate with Experience
  • Relocation Assistance Considered

The Location

  • Plant based in Naples, FL
  • Role is 100% Onsite Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

The Benefits

  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance (Benefits Eligibility Begins on First Day of Full-Time Employment)
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with Employer Contribution
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match
  • Company-Paid Basic Life & AD&D Insurance + Short- and Long-Term Disability Coverage
  • PTO Accrued at 2.77 Hours per Week Beginning on First Day of Employment + 12 Paid Holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program & Tuition Assistance Program
  • Close-Knit, Family-Oriented Culture with Employee Celebrations & Company Events

The Role

  • Report to the Operations Manager and lead the day-to-day Machine Shop while remaining actively involved in CNC programming, setup, machining, troubleshooting, and inspection.
  • Program, set up, prove out, operate, and troubleshoot 3-axis CNC mills and 2-axis CNC lathes, including indexed machining operations.
  • Develop machining processes from engineering drawings and models, including tooling, workholding, setup, and operation sequence.
  • Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, dimensional, and machine-related issues to keep production moving efficiently.
  • Perform and oversee close-tolerance machining and inspection to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Train, coach, and provide technical direction to machinists and operators while managing shop priorities and employee performance.
  • Estimate job setup and run times and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and manufacturing costs.

The Background Profile

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required for ITAR/EAR-controlled work
  • Technical degree and 5+ years of directly related machining experience
  • Demonstrated ability to independently program, set up, operate, prove out, and troubleshoot Fadal 3-axis CNC mills and Haas 2-axis CNC lathes
  • Experience creating and modifying CNC programs using GibbsCAM, including indexed milling operations
  • Strong manual machining experience with both mills and lathes
  • Strong blueprint reading, machining math, cutting-tool selection, workholding, setup, and close-tolerance machining skills
  • Previous experience training, leading, or supervising machinists or machine operators

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume precision machining environment
  • Aerospace, defense, or similarly demanding quality-controlled manufacturing experience
  • Strong manual-machining foundation with practical knowledge of cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and machining fundamentals
  • Experience working across a mixed machine shop that includes Fadal, Haas, Mori Seiki, Hardinge, Bridgeport, Acer, Victor, Sharp, and/or Schaublin equipment
  • Experience with complex, multi-operation parts and developing machining processes and setups from scratch
  • Experience quoting machining work and estimating setup and run times
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose why a machining process is not working and determine how to correct it
  • Hands-on leadership style with a strong sense of ownership for machines, tooling, quality, organization, and overall shop condition
  • Patient, credible trainer who enjoys developing less-experienced machinists
  • Self-directed and willing to pitch in wherever needed to keep a small shop operating effectively
