Job description

Position Summary
The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for the overall leadership, operation, and performance of the machine shop and machine shop team members. This role oversees daily production, CNC machine setup, quality inspection, workflow coordination, safety compliance, and team development while ensuring productivity, accuracy, efficiency, and quality standards are achieved. The Machine Shop Supervisor leads day-to-day machine shop operations, assigns work, monitors production, resolves operational issues, and supports continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Supervise the daily operations of the machine shop to ensure production goals, quality standards, and delivery schedules are achieved
  • Assign work to machine shop employees and monitor productivity throughout the shift
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members while promoting accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Perform CNC machine setups and inspect parts to verify quality and adherence to specifications
  • Monitor production throughout the shift and communicate production updates through end-of-shift reports
  • Ensure employees follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and standard operating procedures
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Identify and resolve production issues quickly to minimize downtime and improve efficiency
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Assist with other duties and special projects as assigned to support business needs
Qualifications

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required
Experience/Skills/Abilities Required
  • 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
  • Strong CNC machining experience, including machine setup and quality inspection
  • Ability to read and use tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold employees accountable
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
  • Willingness to take a hands-on approach and assist with production as needed
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Office, warehouse, truck yard – moderate to loud noise level. This position regularly requires standing; walking; sitting; use hands; reaching with hands and arms; and talking and/or hearing. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
