WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will support the department’s Lead Person and Assistant Manager by carrying out essential maintenance and repair tasks on agricultural machinery. Responsibilities include inspecting, troubleshooting, and performing routine repairs on carrot harvesters and other heavy equipment. The mechanic must adhere to all company safety policies and procedures. A minimum of two years of experience in agricultural equipment maintenance and repair is required. Work assignments must be completed according to the instructions provided, within expected timeframes, and with the required quality standards in both shop and field environments. The mechanic will ensure all equipment operates safely and at peak performance.

  • Assistthe Lead Person with the maintenanceofagricultural and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot fuel, brake, and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and rebuild diesel engines.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair 12V and 24V electrical systems.
  • Examine parts for defects and repair or replace components as needed.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools, specialized software, and equipment toidentifyand resolve issues.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Work with high integrity and adhere to corporate business ethics guidelines.
  • Follow all company and department policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Department Supervisors and Managers to achieve projectobjectives.
  • Maintain productivity while fostering a positive spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Complete assigned repair tasks ina timelyand efficient manner.
  • Maintain equipment and tools to ensure proper and safe operation.
  • Uphold safety standards in the shop and at job sites.
  • Report defective tools or equipmentimmediatelyto the Lead or Management.
  • Pick up and deliver equipment and parts to and from external vendors as needed.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other necessary equipment safely.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery and related equipment.
  • Test and evaluate the performance of agricultural and related equipment.
  • Operate a pilot vehicle for in-town and out-of-town work.
  • Load carrot harvesters for transportation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED: or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in diesel and/or automotive engine repair.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with hydraulic, brake, and electrical systems, including performing preventive maintenance on agricultural equipment.
  • Candidates must have a verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and meet company standards for driving eligibility. This includes maintaining a clean driving record, which will be verified through a background check.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Punctual, excellent attendance record, and cooperate with others.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to apply common sense, understand and carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Safety conscious, an eye for detail, and ability to plan, organize, and perform multiple tasks.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge for troubleshooting and repairing 12V and 24V electrical systems.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of Arc / Mig welding and cutting methods.
  • Previous experience in troubleshooting hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work in group settings.
  • Diesel engine maintenance and repair experience is a plus.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years previous experience preferred.
  • Technical School training in related fields.
  • Experience in “Total Process Reliability” (TPR) maintenance is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Environmental exposure - cold/wet/muddy conditions (30 ° Fahrenheit or below, up to 115° Fahrenheit); will work in the warehouse building as well as all facilities (indoor and outdoor). 
  • Material exposure – moving mechanical parts 
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals 
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, using 3-point contact on a regular basis when assigned to perform work duties in the Main Shipping area. 
  • Ability to use hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, and handle scanning objects in one position or in a repetitive motion for an extended period. 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time 

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

  • 1st shift (8:00am - 4:30pm), Monday through Thursday (7:00am – 3:30pm), on Fridays. Occasionally Saturdays/Sundays; Hours subject to change; Overtime and holidays may be mandatory based on business needs
