Job description

LeClaire Manufacturing is seeking an experienced, hands-on 2nd Shift Machine Shop Supervisor to lead our evening machining operations with confidence, accountability, and a commitment to excellence. As a key leader within our aluminum foundry and precision machining facility, this role is critical to ensuring production schedules are met, quality standards are upheld, and safety remains a top priority. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, develops their team, and takes ownership of performance on second shift. About the Role:

The Machine Shop Department Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in overseeing all aspects of the machine shop operations within a manufacturing foundry environment. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient production workflows, maintaining high-quality standards, and meeting production targets while adhering to safety and regulatory requirements. The supervisor will lead and develop a team of skilled machinists and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. They will coordinate closely with other departments to optimize foundry production processes and resolve any operational challenges promptly. Ultimately, the role ensures that the machine shop contributes effectively to the overall manufacturing goals and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in foundry operations or machine shop environments, preferably with some time in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality control standards and production management within a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance in industrial environments.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in manufacturing technology, industrial engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with CNC machinery and programming.
  • Proficiency in production management software and data analysis tools.
  • Certification in supervisory management or related professional credentials.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily machine shop operations, including scheduling, workflow management, and resource allocation to meet production deadlines.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate machine shop personnel to enhance team performance and professional development.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure all machined components meet or exceed industry and company standards.
  • Collaborate with foundry production management and other departments to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Analyze production data and generate reports to identify areas for improvement and support decision-making.
  • Manage equipment maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be sitting at a desk working on a computer for part of the time. They are regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds. Up to 100% of the working environment could be hot, cold, and wet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. While normal hours of work and days for LeClaire Manufacturing are Monday through Friday, this role is for 2nd shift with base hours of 2pm - 10pm. Hours for this position may call for overtime and weekends.
