Job description

Description

The machinist is in charge to set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools. Also maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs machinist duties as required to maintain and fabricate machinery.
  • Assists with tasks in the machine shop and production areas as needed.
  • Performs machining work according to required drawings or supervisor's instructions
  • Performs maintenance and machine fabrication supervising quality of the job.
  • Work with engineering to develop machining processes for different jobs.
  • Responsible for maintaining order and cleanliness in the machine shop.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates  ability to self-motivate and to problem solve in a fast-paced setting. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle numbers and multiple tasks at one time.
  • A proven understanding of milling machines, lathes and grinders and associated tooling and set up.
  • Ability to use measurement equipment and hold tolerances
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to seek and accept feedback from others and complete jobs with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical School or Apprenticeship preferred

Working conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical requirements:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Candidate must be able to perform the physical responsibilities of the job utilizing arms, hands, and fingers to perform  complex functions of manufacturing parts and performing other duties of the job; e.g., standing, sitting, walking throughout the facility and stairs, bending, squatting, and kneeling, etc. 
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Pay: $30.00 - $33.00/ hour
