Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Paving Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This will be a full time, field-based role based out of Marietta, GA, reporting to our Shop Manager. The majority of the time this work will be performed out in the field, with some of the work also being performed in the shop itself. Weekend and night work is possible with this position.

Essential functions include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
SUMMARY / JOB SCOPE:
The Paving Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the diagnostic and repairs of the Company's paving equipment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3 years of experience maintaining and repairing grading equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and adjusts
    • Asphalt Pavers,
    • Shuttle Buggy,
    • Milling Machine,
    • Rollers,
    • Brooms,
    • Skid Steers, and
    • Loader.
  • Repairs and replaces
    • Fuel Systems,
    • Charging Systems, and
    • Hydraulic Systems
  • Rebuilds and replaces
    • Wear plates,
    • Floor plates,
    • Chains,
    • Broom cores,
    • Blades,
    • Screed
    • Conveyors,
    • Drive hubs,
    • Watering Systems, and
    • Fuel Systems
  • Determines machines conditions by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
  • Corrects deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as power and drive trains, electric air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop orientations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Verifies proper performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions;
    • Troubleshooting breakdowns
    • Initiating repairs
  • Services equipment to include
    • Oil changes
    • Adding fluids
    • Changing filters
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, and hydraulic systems, diesel, and gasoline engines, transmission, and drive trains
  • Test equipment performance before and after repairs
  • Performs other related duties as required, and assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
  • Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and occasional working in cramped and awkward positions.
  • Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather extreme heat and cold, high/ low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.

This job operates in a busy shop/garage setting. The role routinely uses standard shop equipment such as tools, lifts, compressors, jacks, jack stands, oil drain and oil caddies, battery chargers and jumpers, engine hoists, brake lathes, presses, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squat for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to pull, push, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Functions in inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Some nights/weekend hours will be required as well.
