Shop Manager

We are looking for a dependable, hands-on Shop & Fleet Manager who takes ownership of company assets and leads with accountability, organization, and professionalism.

Position Summary

The Shop & Fleet Manager is responsible for the maintenance, repair, organization, cleanliness, and overall condition of all company trucks, trailers, construction equipment, tools, and shop assets. This role is critical to keeping field operations running efficiently and minimizing downtime.

The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical background, takes pride in maintaining equipment and vehicles, and can create systems that keep the shop organized and operations running smoothly. This person will set the standard for how company trucks, equipment, tools, and the shop are maintained and cared for.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet, Trucks & Equipment Management

  • Maintain, inspect, diagnose, and repair company trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and fleet vehicles

  • Ensure all trucks and equipment are clean, safe, reliable, and job-ready at all times

  • Perform preventative maintenance and create service schedules for all company assets

  • Track inspections, oil changes, repairs, service intervals, and equipment condition

  • Coordinate major repairs with outside vendors when needed

  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and minimize equipment downtime

  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records for all vehicles and equipment

Shop Operations & Organization

  • Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and efficient shop environment

  • Implement systems for tool control, storage, labeling, and organization

  • Ensure parts, tools, fluids, and materials are properly stocked and easy to locate

  • Maintain shop safety standards and ensure compliance with company expectations

  • Keep work areas, trucks, and equipment clean and presentable

Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead by example through work ethic, reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail

  • Hold employees accountable for properly using and returning company trucks, tools, and equipment

  • Coordinate with field supervisors and management to prioritize equipment and fleet needs

  • Communicate repair timelines, equipment availability, and downtime clearly

  • Support field crews by ensuring equipment and trucks are dependable and ready for work

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Manage shop inventory, parts, fluids, tools, and supplies

  • Order parts and materials while controlling costs and avoiding unnecessary expenses

  • Track equipment usage, repair history, and recurring maintenance issues

  • Help improve efficiency and extend the life of company vehicles and equipment

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical background with hands-on repair experience

  • Experience working on trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and fleet vehicles

  • Highly organized with strong attention to cleanliness and structure

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and company assets

  • Reliable, accountable, and self-motivated

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions when needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Shop Manager, Fleet Manager, or Lead Mechanic

  • Construction industry or heavy equipment experience

  • Experience supervising or training employees

  • Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking and inventory management

  • CDL or equipment operation experience is a plus
