Machinist III
Overview
This position is primarily responsible for the set-up/ operation of various types of machine shop equipment inclusive of, but not limited to, manual and CNC Engine Lathes, Bridgeports and Grinders to produce complex tools, fixtures and diversified products in a safe, effective/efficient manner to meet operational requirements. This expertise will be applied in a proactive manner utilizing best practices when conducting documentation review, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, equipment set-up/operation and component inspection related activities.
The incumbent must be an individual who can multi-task and perform various machine shop related activities which are to be conducted in a manner that complies with company requirements (i.e., regulatory, safety, administrative, etc.). This position requires effective interaction with a broad spectrum of people within the organization to successfully support operations and the corporate strategic vision.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years of related experience involving set-up/operation of precision (high tolerance), machine shop equipment (Aerospace mfg. environment preferred)
  • High School/(GED) Diploma or Vocational/Technical school equivalent
  • Self-motivated individual who possesses the ability to analyze, organize, plan, multi-task and achieve results through effective interaction with others
  • Possess math skills required to effectively and efficiently read, interpret documents (i.e., blueprints/technical drawings, operation/tool/set-up sheets, procedures, ECN’s, routers, etc.). Ability to interpret various types of graphs and data used in problem solving, SPC, monitoring of performance metrics, etc.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal/written communication skills required for interacting with all levels of personnel within the organization
  • Ability to set-up and operate machine shop equipment in a effective, efficient, safe and consistent manner
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of Lean Manufacturing concepts, employee training, GT amp;D practices, interpretation of machine shop documentation (blueprints, ECN’s, operation/tooling sheets, routers, etc.), inspection methods, effective utilization of measuring equipment/instruments, root cause investigations, troubleshooting, and performance metrics
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values, strategic plan and vision

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:
  • Manufacture production and tooling parts using a variety of tools, equipment, and materials as required
  • Set-up and operate machine shop equipment in an effective, efficient, safe and consistent manner
  • Effectively perform component/material inspections utilizing the appropriate measuring equipment/instruments. Provide guidance on in-process/final inspection requirements, methods, and tools.
  • Competent in measuring parts using precision measuring equipment such as Calipers, Micrometers, Depth gages, Vision Systems, etc.
  • Interpret various types of graphs and data used in problem solving, SPC, monitoring of performance metrics, etc.
  • Coordinate, execute, document, and bring to closure machine shop related activities, through effective interaction with other departments within the organization
  • Generate work instructions, set up sheets, programs, etc. for machining activities
  • Read, interpret, and advise about manufacturability on documents (i.e. blueprints/technical drawings, tolerances, GD amp;T, operation/tool/set-up sheets, routers, procedures, ECN’s, etc.) in an effective manner to produce conforming product on a timely basis
  • Set-up and operate various types of CNC and manual machine shop equipment in an effective, efficient, safe and consistent manner to support customer requirements, with little to no supervision
  • Review documentation and verify methods, procedures, equipment and tooling can produce conforming product in a safe and efficient manner
  • Train and mentor others how to perform machining processes for production products
  • Communicate issues w/recommendations to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform troubleshooting activities to resolve issues and provide improvement recommendations.
  • Define and perform routine maintenance of equipment.

Work Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • This is a full-time position amp; overtime and weekend work may be required, as job duties demand.
  • No travel is expected for this position
Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Pay Range: $29 - $40/per hour
