We design specialty innovations, smart instruments and devices, integrated ecosystems, and intelligent imaging-to build a more connected, software-enabled operating room.

As an independent, family-owned MedTech company, we ambitiously think in generations instead of quarters to improve patients' lives around the world.

About the Role

KARL STORZ is seeking an experienced Machining Operations Supervisor to lead our machining department and ensure the efficient production of high-quality components that support our manufacturing operations and customer commitments. This role is responsible for coordinating daily machining activities, supervising team leads and hourly personnel, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining a safe, compliant, and high-performing work environment. The ideal candidate brings strong CNC machining expertise, proven leadership experience, and a passion for developing teams while improving quality, delivery, and operational performance.

Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:30AM to 4:00PM

This position is primarily onsite and requires regular presence on the manufacturing floor. Occasional travel may be required.

 What You'll Do
  • Lead and coordinate daily operations within the machining department to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and delivery commitments are achieved.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop machinists, operators, finishers/assemblers, and team leads while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous learning.
  • Monitor department performance metrics and implement corrective actions to improve productivity, quality, throughput, and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive lean manufacturing initiatives, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement activities to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Manage work orders, inventory, maintenance activities, calibration programs, and manufacturing resources to support production requirements.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Operations teams to resolve manufacturing issues and support business growth.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, FDA Quality System Regulations, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, scheduling, timecard approval, and workforce planning activities.

 What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical Discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a machining or manufacturing environment, preferably with CNC screw machines.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of CNC machine setup, offsets, troubleshooting, and program editing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing employee relations, and developing talent in a production environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with the ability to balance multiple production demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and manufacturing-related software applications.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, and implement process improvements.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, such as medical device manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Kanban systems, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting ISO-certified quality management systems.

 What Will Make You Successful
  • A leadership style focused on coaching, accountability, and team development.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly resolve production challenges and equipment downtime.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with demonstrated success driving operational efficiencies and cost reductions.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture that prioritizes employee safety, quality, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on engagement on the manufacturing floor.

 Why KARL STORZ?

Join KARL STORZ and be part of a team creating medical innovations that truly make a difference. Beyond technology, you'll be part of a culture that values talent as its greatest asset, empowering you to contribute to a mission that improves patient care worldwide.
