SUMMARY: The Mill Machinist works independently and provides guidance to others

It is an advancedlevel machinist responsible for highly complex setups, machining large or unique components, developing work holding strategies, and mentoring others. This role requires mastery of CNC machining, rigging, inspection, and problem-solving. Machinist employees frequently lead technical initiatives and ensure safe, efficient machining practices across the shop.

PRIMARY DUTIES Include the following but other duties may be assigned. * Plan, perform, and/or create safe, efficient setups for very complex or unique parts. Masterfully run multiple machine families, optimizing performance and cycle times.

Lead troubleshooting on challenging machining or tooling issues. Collaborate with programming, engineering, and leadership on process improvements. Recommend tooling upgrades and machining strategy modifications.

Troubleshoot machining issues and assist with root-cause analysis. Perform advanced rigging and safe handling of large or irregular parts. Use overhead cranes and part flippers independently with expert competency.

Mentor others on safe rigging techniques. Verify all dimensions and specifications using advanced inspection methods. Perform own laser inspection where required.

Drive corrective actions related to quality deviations and scrap reduction. Train Machinist I & II employees across multiple machines and processes. Provide technical guidance on machining, rigging, safety, and best practices.

Lead continuous improvement projects to increase safety, throughput, and quality. SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reports unsafe conditions to manager. Attend all required safety training.

Assures that his/her area is safe and cleaned at all times. Assist other department and/or areas as requested by management or supervisor. Follows all company policies and safety guidelines.

Reports all accidents & injuries immediately. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not oversee any personnel. SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE 5-10 years of experience operating/ setting up Mill machines in an aerospace or machine shop environment.

Expert level in blueprint reading and measurement skills (calipers, micrometers). Mastery of advanced setups, work holding, and tool selection decisions. Advanced in rigging for asymmetrical, oversized, and high-risk components (basket, chocker, bridle, vertical, U) Strong understanding of G-code, program adjustments, and process optimization.

Ability to satisfactorily run 5-8+ different machine types/ families at an expert level. Able to perform or interpret advanced inspection (including laser inspection). EDUCATION Minimum of a High School Diploma/ GED or a combination of work experience and education will be considered.

Certification courses in machining at a trade school are highly desirable.
