Job description

JOB TITLE: MACHINIST
Non-Exempt Position
REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor/Plant Manager
DEPARTMENT: Machine Shop
BASIC FUNCTION:
Sets up and operate machine shop equipment and perform machining processes in accordance with standard industry practices.
GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Set up and operate manual milling machine, engine lathe, drill presses, punch press, saws, CNC machine and occasionally other miscellaneous machining equipment.

  • Process production work orders for machined parts and assemblies in order to maintain stock levels and/or meet customer requirements.

  • General preparation of parts including cleaning, grinding and deburring.

  • Observes operation of various pieces of equipment and ensures operating parameters will produce quality products within required specifications.

  • Responsible for producing acceptable work which meets or exceeds all Quality Control Standards.

  • Maintain machine shop equipment.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.

  • Exhibit interpersonal skills sufficient to perform as an active team member.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by company management.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or acceptable equivalent.

  • Vocational education in Machining is preferred.

  • Must have state recognized machinist apprentice papers or acceptable shop experience that can be verified by past employers.

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and general knowledge of G and M coding systems preferred.

  • Good communication skills.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints and/or mechanical drawings.

  • Ability to operate/use various measuring tools including micrometers, calipers and tape measures.

  • 1 - 3 years machining experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Moderate to heavy lifting on occasion.

  • Ability to stand for 8 hours/day.

  • Some stooping and squatting.

  • Ability to handle moderate lifting up to 50 lbs.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.

  • Ability to perform MIG or TIG welding processes is a plus.

  • Demonstrate a positive business-like attitude.

  • Willingness to independently continue the learning process.

  • Conduct all interactions with customers (Internal and External), vendors, field sales representatives, co-workers, and supervisors in a focused, positive, courteous and respectful manner.

  • Required to wear all OSHA mandated safety equipment and to adhere to all company safety practices and policies.

  • Regular attendance is an essential element of the job. Unplanned absences have the potential to impair the operation of the department and diminish effectiveness of the company.
