Job description

DEPARTMENT: PRODUCTION

REPORTS TO: DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR/MANAGER

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Machine Operator’s operate equipment in a manufacturing setting. The Machine Operator aligns with manufacturing operations to achieve optimal production efficiency and effectiveness in support of the overall goals and objectives of the department.  Machine operators are responsible for always maintaining the highest standard of safety.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Start machinery and adjust machinery when necessary to improve performance
  • Operate machinery and equipment according to instructions
  • Troubleshoot issues and report maintenance issues
  • Perform Quality Inspections, follow reporting and recordkeeping procedures, and report problems to supervisor
  • Comply with all safety and health regulations
  • Responsible for general housekeeping in and around immediate work area
  • Process and packages production to specification of work order
  • Develop and follow standardized work instructions to minimize machine downtime
  • Follow all safety and food safety guidelines always and take a proactive approach to safe working conditions
  • Maintain familiarity with SDS and other regulated material information, requirements, and guidelines.
  • Assist during shift changes to ensure a smooth transition from crew to crew.
  • Alert appropriate personnel of production-related issues in an efficient manner. Communicate all important information including but not limited to quality concerns, equipment problems, safety issues, and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ATTITUDES:

  • Preferred High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred machine operating experience in a manufacturing facility, or similar relevant experience
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to understand basic Quality Control methods
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools
  • Knowledge of the products manufactured in the facility w/ basic computer / scanning technology experience

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:

While performing the duties, the employee will be required to sit and/or stand, talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands, fingers and arms to feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. Prolonged standing/walking periods of 12 hours. May be required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift to 50 pounds.

  • Safety Responsibilities:
    1. Supports a culture where employees address unsafe conditions and behaviors, make suggestions for improvements, and actively participates in implementing solutions
    2. Identifies safety gaps and self-initiates corrective actions
    3. Strictly adheres to plant safety, housekeeping, and 5S efforts
    4. Understands, identifies, and corrects safety hazards
    5. Drives a culture which empowers employees to understand and embrace what they own
  • Food Safety Responsibilities:
    1. Monitors and verifies activities to ensure that finished goods and raw materials are coming in and out of the facility meet consumer safety and quality standards.
    2. Complies with all company food safety and quality assurance procedures
    3. Reports any product or process failures that could impact food safety of manufactured products to the location’s Food Safety Team Leader and submits an appropriate incident report
