JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Specialized Machine Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of high-speed can manufacturing equipment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, quick troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to following strict operating and quality procedures. The Specialized Machine Operator ensures equipment runs at maximum capability, monitors product quality, performs routine maintenance, and safeguard company assets.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Machine Operation & Equipment Care
  • Set up, operate, and monitor production equipment to achieve quality, safety, and output standards.
  • Adjust machines and settings to correct issues, optimize speed, and maintain consistent performance.
  • Perform regular cleaning, lubrication, and preventive tasks to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Listen, observe, and respond to unusual sounds, movements, or quality deviations with immediate corrective action.
  • Safely load supplies into machines, replace tooling/molds as needed, and coordinate smoothly with upstream and downstream processes.
  • Demonstrate reliability by consistently maintaining equipment and following procedures to ensure customers receive products of the highest standard.

Quality & Process Control
  • Conduct in-process checks, measurements, and inspections to ensure products meet customer specifications.
  • Identify and correct defects quickly, escalating major issues to supervisors or technicians to keep production on schedule.
  • Accurately record production data, including quantities, downtime, and quality outcomes, in the company system.
  • Follow strict quality, safety, and sanitation procedures if applicable at all times.
  • Apply price competitiveness by supporting cost-efficient production practices without compromising quality.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with Maintenance Technicians, Supervisors, and team members to keep equipment running at peak performance.
  • Train and support coworkers on proper equipment use, quality standards, and safety practices.
  • Contribute to process improvements that reduce waste, increase efficiency, and strengthen product quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Show versatility by being open to cross-training, flexible scheduling, and adapting quickly to changes in customer demand.

Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Preferred: Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or related field.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with high-speed manufacturing equipment, motor controls, installations, or repairs.
  • Prior experience in CNC, press operation, or other technical manufacturing environments a plus.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work performed in a manufacturing facility with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and occasional chemicals.
  • Standing/walking up to 90% of shift; frequent bending, twisting, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or hoists when needed.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, ear protection, and steel-toed shoes.
HOURS & CONDITIONS
  • Standard shifts are 8 hours, five days per week, with flexibility for overtime, weekends, or variable schedules based on production demands.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential requirement.

ADDENDUM (For DRD specific lines)For employees assigned to food-grade production lines (such as Draw & Redraw [DRD] operations) covered by BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standards) for Food Safety, the following additional responsibilities and requirements apply:Food Safety Compliance
  • Adhere to all BRCGS Food Safety requirements, site-specific policies, and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Follow enhanced hygiene, sanitation, and PPE protocols specific to food-grade operations.
  • Support allergen management and contamination prevention measures.

Documentation & Traceability
  • Accurately complete and maintain food safety records, monitoring logs, and traceability documentation in accordance with BRCGS standards.

Training & Awareness
  • Participate in all required food safety and BRCGS-related training.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how assigned tasks impact product safety, legality, and quality.

Audit & Inspection Support
  • Cooperate with internal and external audits (including customer, regulatory, and certification) by demonstrating knowledge of food safety responsibilities.

Continuous Improvement & Food Safety Culture
  • Proactively identify and report risks, non-conformances, or improvement opportunities that may affect food safety.
  • Actively contribute to fostering a strong food safety culture within the workplace.
