Job description

As an Machine Operator you will be an important part of the Steel Technologies team and critical to meeting our customer demands. You’re more than a machine operator, you’re an equipment programmer and you like maintaining machine controls and ensuring production is running effectively.  Ultimately, you play an important role at Steel Technologies.

How you’ll contribute to our company:

  • Operate controls on the machine to ensure compliance with production instructions
  • Maintain accurate documentation of machine, settings, and work orders
  • Use banding equipment to package material according to customer specifications 
  • Load, transport, unload, and stack materials in accordance with established procedures
  • Maintain production standards using tape measures and micrometers to measure and check the dimensions of the steel
  • Make and inspect arbor and overarm set-ups to ensure compliance with production instructions
  • Operate forklift and/or overhead crane to transport materials to and from storage areas, workstations, and working within areas of assignment
  • Retrieve steel samples for the lab and review against work orders, communicate non-compliance production to supervisor and/or shift lead
  • Clean machine and surrounding area

Here’s what is needed to be successful:

  • Knowledge of an ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate equipment programmers
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality standards
  • Ability to use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
