JOB SUMMARY:
The CNC Machinist / Manual Machinist is responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and modifying precision tooling used in high-volume automotive fastener production. This position programs, sets up and operates either CNC and/or conventional machining equipment to produce cold heading and special tooling components while maintaining tight tolerances and surface finishes required for automotive applications.
The role supports production uptime, tool life improvement, and zero-defect manufacturing in accordance with automotive quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
CNC Machining
  • Program, set up and operate CNC mills and lathes.
  • Edit programs, offsets, and tool paths as required.
  • Machine hardened and soft tool steels and carbide components.
  • Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
  • Verify first-piece inspection prior to production runs.
  • Manufacture one-off tooling and prototypes.

Manual Machining (Conventional Equipment)
  • Operate manual lathes, mills, surface grinders, centerless grinders, hones, and drill presses.
  • Hand fit and adjust tooling components.
  • Perform precision grinding and polishing.
  • Manufacture one-off tooling and prototypes.
  • Modify existing tooling for engineering changes or process improvements.

Tooling Production & Repair
  • Produce and repair:
    • Header dies and punches
    • Forming inserts
    • Pins
  • Rework worn tooling to extend life.
  • Support rapid tooling turnaround during production downtime.

Inspection & Quality
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, indicators, comparators, and gauges.
  • Interpret complex blueprints and GD&T requirements.
  • Maintain traceability and documentation aligned with IATF 16949.
  • Ensure finished tooling meets print and functional specifications.

Process Support
  • Assist tool makers, engineers, maintenance, and production with troubleshooting.
  • Support new product launches and PPAP preparation.
  • Provide feedback on manufacturability and tool performance.
  • Help improve tool life and reduce scrap.

Safety & Environmental
  • Follow safe machining practices and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain machine guarding and housekeeping standards.
  • Handle cutting fluids and materials in accordance with ISO 14001 where applicable.
  • Maintain organized work area (5S).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certification in machining or toolmaking highly preferred.
  • 1+ years machining experience highly preferred.
  • Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach - lifting requirement of up to 40 lbs.
  • Mechanical aptitude with problem-solving ability.
  • Familiar with inventory or ERP systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship and precision.
  • Customer service oriented.
