CHT / Dialysis Biomedical Tech - Per Diem

Shift: 6:45am - 7:15pm

Job Description:

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients including geriatric and adults. This also includes services which can include facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public as customers.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Medical-Surgical Services RN Clinical Manager, the Acute CHT/ Dialysis Biomedical Technician supports patient diagnosing and treatment by installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing biomedical equipment; training users and maintaining safe operations; oversees and monitors that safe and therapeutic dialysis treatment is provided for patients while all state and federal rules, laws, and regulations are followed. Holds responsibility for all documentation of safety issues, Quality Assurance programs, water analysis, cultures and LAL according to AAMI, and State and Federal regulations for the Dialysis Program. Oversees all the bio-medical technicians repairs of Dialysis equipment, water treatment systems, acid and bicarbonate delivery systems. Monitors preventive maintenance of all dialysis equipment and repairs, The Acute CHT/ Dialysis Biomedical Technician ensures these systems are running properly and the equipment is working according to strict specifications. Monitors all water treatment and machines daily logs and disinfectant logs for accuracy and completion. Maintains all test equipment needed for testing. Completes all audits on monthly and quarterly basis.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic knowledge of hemodialysis machine troubleshooting and maintenance of water and concentrate pre/distribution systems. Must have at least six (6) months training under the supervision of an experienced Biomed technician whose primary expertise is Dialysis machines and equipment. Should be a high school graduate or equivalent.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. Communication/writing skills.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have successful completion of the Facility Water Treatment Certification program and Fresenius Technical Training Certification Class or obtain within 6 months of start date. Must have current California PCT certification or national certification, i.e. BONENT, NNCO; and/or CCHT by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) or certification from the California Dialysis Council. Requires current BLS certification or obtain within orientaton process, prior to hands-on patient care.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

1 * As recommended by the ANNA Standards of Clinical Practice for Dialysis, the Acute CHT/ Dialysis Biomedical Technician will provide care of those with acute and chronic renal failure.
2 * Maintains biomedical equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules; conducting tests; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions; calling for special service; evaluating service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories.
3 * "Maintains biomedical equipment supplies inventory by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

4 * Ensures equipment and machines are maintained in working order and all aseptic requirements are performed to insure the sterility of equipment used in the daily process according to established procedures. Improves biomedical equipment performance by studying machine-patient interaction; conferring with equipment users; developing modifications; collaborating with equipment manufacturers.
5 * Is knowledgeable of the procedure for spills and splashes of toxic substances.
6 * Maintains safe and healthy working environment by conducting safety tests; recommending and complying with procedures; training and guiding medical and healthcare personnel; complying with codes.
7 * Participates in a Quality Improvement Program under the supervision of the supervising Director. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications; maintaining personal networks.
8 * Accountable for the training of all technical and professional staff in the proper use and maintenance of equipment. Documents such training.
