What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Machine Operator Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Machine Operator Assistant, you need basic mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with manufacturing machinery, safety protocols, and the ability to use measuring tools or computer systems is often required. Reliability, effective communication, and the ability to work well in a team are standout soft skills for this role. These skills ensure safe, efficient machine operation and help maintain smooth production processes in manufacturing environments.

Our machines help convert plastic and paper sheets into high-value products across many industries, and our equipment operates in more than 85 countries.

We are looking for a Machinist to join our team in Beaverton, MI. This is hands-on shop work setting up and running both CNC and manual mills and lathes to make quality parts for custom machinery. You may also work with other shop equipment as needed based on your experience and the needs of the team.

If you are a machinist who takes pride in quality work and wants to be part of a team that builds custom equipment used around the world, we encourage you to apply.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Some experience setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes required; four or more years preferred.
  3. Ability to read blueprints, understand GD&T, use basic shop math and trigonometry.
  4. Basic G-code knowledge is a plus.
  5. Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
  6. Ability to work independently with minimal instruction once trained.
  7. Ability to understand and hold tight tolerances as close as .001โ€ or tighter.
  8. Basic computer skills preferred.

WHY JOIN BMG?

  • Paid Time Off and Holiday Pay effective upon hire date
  • 401(k) matching
  • Shift premiums of 5% - 7% depending on shift
  • Health, Dental & Vision insurance
  • Employer Paid Life insurance and Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account and Other Supplemental Plan Options
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program
  • Employee Referral Program
  • Work with a supportive team building highly engineered, one-of-a-kind machinery
  • Opportunity to use your machining skills on a variety of parts instead of repetitive high-volume production

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  1. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and job documentation.
  2. Verify material and job requirements before machining.
  3. Select and use appropriate tooling.
  4. Set up and operate mills and lathes at proper speeds and feeds for the material being machined.
  5. Understand feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences.
  6. Inspect parts using appropriate measuring tools and report any quality concerns.
  7. Assist with training or sharing job-specific knowledge with team members when appropriate.
  8. Help meet team goals for quality, efficiency, scrap, rework, and downtime.

ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift, push, and pull up 35 to 50 lbs. occasionally.

  • Walk for extended periods of time.
  • May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform sustained manual activities at low to moderate levels of exertion.
