Job description

Overview
This position operates simple machinery for production parts and basic fabrication tasks within assigned area under close supervision. Works with clearly defined, established instructions and support from the Unit Specialist or trainer. The position is responsible for set-up and operation of secondary machinery and polish equipment. This is the entry level position for machining.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operates machines and tools with a trainer while using required personal protective equipment (PPE). Tasks and equipment include:
    • Parts finishing
    • Deburring
    • Cleaning
    • Routing
    • Cylinder assembly test equipment
    • Solder equipment
    • Saw equipment
    • Some manual machines including Bridgeport, Dovetail Screw Machine (DSM), drill and tap work
  • Routinely produces and inspects production parts to a blueprint, operational note, and/or standard work instruction using proper inspection methods and tools to achieve and maintain quality standards.
  • Completes all documentation that is required for the position to comply with policies and procedures.
  • Achieves and maintains established safety, quality, and productivity standards. Must not pose a risk to self or others.
  • Performs routine total preventative maintenance (TPM) including lubrication and cleaning on assigned equipment.
  • Safely and efficiently routes parts using material handling equipment.
  • Works within a multi-shift organization to maintain a neat and organized workstation, effective communication and a collaborative team environment.
  • Actively engages and participates in department continuous improvement efforts and lean initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English with a demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Able to perform basic machining math calculations within 180 days.
  • Able to interpret job-related blueprints and work instructions within 180 days.
  • Must have the ability and understanding to use precision measuring tools within 180 days.
  • Must pass all material handling required testing within 180 days.
  • Must be able to identify common tools and material types within 180 days.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems when necessary to achieve permanent resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources effectively.

Education and Experience
No previous machining experience required. Manufacturing experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
Ability to wear respiratory protection and comply with OSHA's respirator use requirements.
