Job Description
Job Summary: Certified Teaching Assistants (CTAs) provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a Certified Teacher.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • NYSED Certification as a Level I Teaching Assistant (Must obtain Level III within 4 years of appointment. Recommendations for extension of Level I will only be made if all requirements for Level II have been met except the required work experience).
  • Completion of required state workshops, IE. Child Abuse Detection & Reporting, School Violence Prevention, and DASA.
Primary Activities
  • Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects.
  • Provide the teacher with information about students which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences.
  • Assist students in the use of available instructional resources, and assist in the development of instructional materials.
  • Utilize own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as: foreign languages, arts, crafts, music and similar subjects.
  • Assist in related instructional work as required.
  • Assist students with specific health related activities as appropriate.
  • Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records (e.g. lessons, attendance, pencils, paper, teaching supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reports, or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Performs general clerical tasks for the purpose of helping the teacher get instructional materials ready.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
  • is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward.
  • Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors
